Jung kook's POV ~ ( For the first couple chapters, I'll have to do POV's because the characters are still being introduced)
I ruffle up my hair into a frizzy mess, trudging back to the school gate. I can't believe she beat me. God, she's so full of herself... Someone runs up behind me and grabs me in a headlock, ruffling my hair up into even more disarray of tangled, unruly strands.
"Don't be upset. She was really good. I don't think I could've beaten her either." Jin reassures me. Of course, I expected nothing less from him. He's been my best friend since forever; he's required to support me blindly.
"Shut it. Was that supposed to make me feel better? You're on the archery team. You may be the ace, but you're worse than a sloth on your legs." I snap. He laughs jovially, releasing me from him and slinging his arm over my shoulder instead.
"It's not that I'm not fast-" He starts to lecture
"You're not," I interrupt, earning a playful glare from him.
"You've got no manners, have you? Let me finish." He tuts, putting his finger to his mouth. His arm still slung around my shoulder, he started pointing, moving his index finger tracing along an invisible line.
"It's not that I'm not fast, I want to enjoy the scenery," He smiles knowingly at me as the words come out of his mouth.
"Hmm," I scoff. "You said the same thing when you were late to chemistry."
"So what if I did? I got myself out of trouble, didn't I ?" He stuffs one hand in his pocket, and the other through his hair.
"Are you kidding me? You got 2 detentions."
"Two less than usual." He points out pridefully, puffing up his chest. I grin, his childish antics breaking through my cold demeanor.
"How come it's only you that can make me laugh ?"
"Because you're pathetic and refuse to laugh at anybody else. "
"Yeah, right."
"You love me." He insists.
"Ha," I snort, "Nope."
"You do."
"Prove it."
"Idiot...I'll leave you alone with Suho for a while, that'll make you realize the blessing of my presence. Besides, you're just too stubborn to admit that you can't live without me."
"Yeah, I can."
" Young kook," He starts, "You must remember that I do the cleaning." I shake my head at him, smiling slightly. Whilst doing so, I manage to catch a gruesome glimpse of that girl from the tryouts through the slits of my eyes.
She's on some guy's back, smiling stupidly as he carries her towards the girls' dorms. I blank out, stopping in my tracks. Jin realizes that I'm not beside him and runs back to my side, tracing my stare back to the girl.
"Who is she ?" I mutter.
"Lisa," He says as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.
"Yeah, well I know that," I say, irritated.
"Then why'd you ask, you brat," He snaps back. He does a double-take, immediately pretending to be cool.
"Jisoo walked past you, didn't she ?" I turn back to him, smirking and beginning to march forward with him again. He stares at her figure which was walking a couple feet in front of us, and smiles slightly, nodding. Suho whips past us, running to her.
He slings his arm around her shoulder, which proved to be the wrong move. She kicks behind his knee, making him fall behind her as she walks on, unbothered. Jin chuckles at her, not letting his eyes wander anywhere else. I grab his wrist and run to her. He doesn't protest but lags behind me a little bit. I tap her on the shoulder, and she turns to me, smiling.
Jin's POV ~
"Hey."
"How're you holding up ?" Jungkook asks. Her tinkling laugh escapes her rosy lips, and she takes out her earbuds, stuffing them in her sweatshirt.
"I'm fine. You ?" She asks. Jungkook just smiles and raises an eyebrow at her.
"Would you believe it if I told you ?" She smiles again and looks at me this time.
"What about you? "
"I'm fine," I start, unsure of what to say. My heart starts beating faster than normal, my face turning red more easily than usual, and my embarrassment visiting me more frequently than I'd usually allow.
"I saw you at the track meet. What did you think about Lisa ?"
"What can I say? She's talented," At this, Jungkook's ears perk up, listening intently but staring at his phone fruitlessly, pretending as if he wasn't. "I know I should be sad that I'm not the ace of the team anymore, but we all want what's good for the school. At the end of the day, we're all fighting for the same thing."
Suho catches up to her, ruffling her hair up. Jungkook shoves his hand away from her as she calmly smoothes her hair back into its original shape.
"Go out with me ?" He asks.
"No," She says, putting her earbuds back in as if that would act as a shield, making him go away. I stifle a laugh at the annoyance flitting across his features.
"Fine. I'll get you one day or another." He rolls his eyes at her unbothered form which continues to stare down at the blank screen of her phone.
"Kidnapping doesn't count," She says coolly.
"Jin! I'll see you on the basketball courts today ?"
"It's a date." I agree.
He scoffs and walks away from us, eyeing Jisoo with a, particularly red face. Once he's gone, she pops her earbuds out again, stuffing them in her pocket. She smiles mischievously, gazing up at me.
"I still don't understand why you guys befriended him," She says, looking at Jungkook who simply points at me in explanation.
"Back then, I really wanted to punch him for asking you out. Or prank him at the very least. But pretending to be his friend and sabotaging him is much more fulfilling." I shrug.
"Why don't you just prank him? Why do you insist on torturing yourself by being friends with him ?" She mutters.
I rest my arm around her shoulder, waiting for her to kick me like she had Suho. I squeeze my eyes shut, but when I don't feel the jab of her foot, I open them again and continue as if nothing happened.
"Because then he'd suspect me."
"Normally your IQ is down in the dumps. At least it's average sometimes." She ruffles my hair up, knowing very well that I hated it. But what she didn't know was that I forgot that I hated it when it was her.
"Ah, you know me too well," I sigh.
"7th year running, Jin," Jungkook says, a faint smile lining his mouth. Us three...Let's just say we've been friends since the beginning of time.
It starts to get dark when we return from frolicking around every street of the city; Jungkook and I walk her back to the girls' dorms regardless of how many times she insists she can take care of herself.
"I can go back myself. It's okay. You guys go back too. It's getting late, and I want the reassurance that you two have made it home safe."
"Yeah, yeah, we will. You go in first."
She stops by the bottom of the staircase, turning around and waving shyly at me. I could feel my cheeks burn and I can't remember ever being more thankful for the dull streetlights.
"Get inside," I repeat. The warmth of her presence quickly fades away as her outline simmers further and further away from us.
"She's surreal," I say blankly, almost mindlessly.
"Let's go. It's getting late." Jungkook says, choosing to ignore my previous statement.
I look at her dorm window which she's sitting against, watching us walk away from her. She smiles and waves goodbye again, prominently staring at me. I smile a little, waving and turning back around. Before I did, I caught a glimpse of a shadow behind her...
Huh...That's weird...
Jisoo's been living alone ever since college started.
