The thing about relationships is that sooner or later, the honeymoon phase ends. At some point, the amount of thoughts about your significant other decrease. They don't fog your mind every second of every day but rather when you want them to. You two get increasingly comfortable and develop a certain routine throughout the week regarding when you two see each other. You two become so comfortable and don't even notice certain changes.

That was the situation you and George were in. He used to give you small and thoughtful gifts all the time and although you know gifts don't mean everything, it was nice to feel appreciated. It's been months since he's given you something. Not to mention the amount of times you rarely see him now. He either has quidditch or some stupid prank to do with Fred that lands him in detention. You couldn't blame him though, his antics are what drew you to him in the first place.

You just missed him but never dared to bring it up to him as you didn't want to come across as clingy and annoy him to where he ultimately ends up pushing you away even more. So for months, you've sat in silence and learned to push it down and out of your brain. However, as each day flew by, it got harder and harder. Which is why tonight was the breaking point.

You and George's one year anniversary was coming up, so a trip to Hogsmeade was planned since that is where your guys first date was last December. You had been ecstatic about the trip all week as each trip there happened to be more unique than the others. George had quidditch practice that same day so the two of you decided to just meet there which you didn't mind.

What you did mind, though, was sitting in the corner of the three broomsticks for an hour and half with no George present. The amount of times the workers sent pity glances your way became agonizing which is why after almost two hours of anxiously waiting, you decided to head back. It was around nine at night, the shop becoming more and more vacant. You sighed as you stood up and made your way out of the door. The walk there was excruciating as it got colder and your anger towards George increased with each step you took. One year. One whole year. How do you forget a date on your one year. That'd only be the case if you genuinely just didn't care about your significant other. That and brain damage.

It seemed you had made it back to Hogwarts in record time as you angrily walked back. The warm air instantly cascaded around you once you made your way up into the Gryffindor common room in search of your idiotic boyfriend. You knew no matter what his excuse was, you were going to explode. It wasn't in you not to show your anger as you were naturally an open book. People were always aware of your emotions, no matter how hard you tried to deny it.

You practically shouted the password at the fat lady, eager to find out why your boyfriend was a no show. As soon as you stepped in, you heard huge fits of laughter coming from across the corner. You felt your chest tighten as your emotions became overwhelmed at the sight of your boyfriend laughing away with his brothers, Hermione and Harry. Did he just not care? You put your fists in your pocket as you made your way over to them.

"Hey (Y/n)! I haven't seen you since this morning" Hermione cheerily said but her smile washed away when she looked at your expression, immediately remembering what you said this morning. She looked from you to George who was too busy talking to Fred and drinking fire whiskey to notice. Her eyes widened causing Ron and Harry to questioningly glance at one another wondering what they missed.

"Yeah I had a date tonight with a selfish prick who didn't have the decency to even show up" You stated, causing everyone to stop talking. George immediately made eye contact with you, his face softening as the sight of you. "Happy one year right? Glad to know as I was foolishly sitting in a shop in Hogsmeade, finally happy that I was promised one night for the first time in what feels like weeks with my boyfriend, only for him to stand me up to get drunk with his twin and friends. The greatest feeling in the world was walking back in the cold and dark as my mind repeatedly wondered why you just don't care enough anymore to be with me" The room began to feel colder than it was outside. Everyone had their heads down in embarrassment or pity, you couldn't distinguish which one, as George couldn't do anything but stare in disbelief at his mistake.
