Ashton's POV:

-

"Is she breathing?"

Calum's eyes widened as he looked up. "No."

"Should I call the police?!" Luke yelled.

"Um I- I don't know. There's no time. C-Calum, you were a lifeguard right? Do something!" I was in full panic mode.

While Calum began the CPR, Luke and I waited, scared as fuck.

"Oh my god Luke, hand me a towel it's so cold I'm gonna die."

He handed me a towel and my shirt, and I put both on.

"I don't think Cal is getting anywhere, Luke go get somebody", I said nervously.

"Why did you even save her?" Luke asked. "Usually when somebody jumps, they don't want to be saved!"

"Just go!"

Right then, Vanessa opened her eyes and took in a huge breath. She sat up straight.

"Wh- Ashton?!" She chocked.

"Calum, go tell Luke she's okay", I told Calum, and he ran after Luke.

Then it was just me and Vanessa. I handed her my towel.

"Wh- why did you save me?" She asked, shivering.

I didn't really know what to say.

"I don't know, I just- you're different."

"What?" She asked.

"Nothing. Um uh- do you want a ride? Or something?"

"Don't you have a show to do? Sorry I forgot about it. I would've gone but..."

"Ehh screw it. There was only like 5 people there anyways. Calum and Luke can handle it."

-

I pulled into Vanessa's driveway, and turned off the car. It was completely silent. Nobody moved.

"So. Are you going to get out of the car, or..." I said.

She looked at me and rolled her eyes.

"Look, I know it didn't seem like it before, but I'm thankful. Thankful for you, and thankful that you saved me."

She opened the door and stepped out.

"Do you uh.. Wanna come inside?" She blushed.

I smiled widely and nodded my head.

Her house was huge, almost like a mansion. She unlocked the front door, and we entered. I was immediately amazed by the marble floors and small pillars.

"Your house is- wow", I said looking around.

She smiled. "Want anything to drink? Water?"

"No, I'm okay. I think I've gotten enough water for one day", I laughed.

-

We sat down on the couch, and turned on the tv. I wasn't paying attention to what was on. Instead, I was figuring out what to say.

"So... are we gonna talk about what happened?"

She turned down the tv.

"Well. I'd rather pretend it never happened. I'm used to pretending. One day I'm a suicidal freak, the next I'm just plain old Vanessa Carter."

I leaned closer to her.

"What's your story, Vanessa Carter? Your life seems perfect. Why kill yourself?"

She thought for a moment.

"If I told you my story, you would walk out the door."

"Oh, come on. That's not true."

"Yeah, it is", she laughed.

"No, I'm sure it's not."

She stopped laughing, her smile fading into a frown.

"Yeah... It is."

There was an awkward silence.

"I think you should go. Thanks for everything", she said standing up.

I stood up and followed her to the door.

"Wait, I'm sorry, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

She opened the door.

"It's not that. See you around school?"

I walked out the door.

"Yep."
