I don’t really like how this turned out - didn’t go according to plan. But here it is. Thank you for all your feedback!
“As you wish” he nods peacefully and heads back towards Demi’s room. They all follow in a neat bundle before going into the room surrounding the bed. Things hadn’t changed since they had left her. The nurses who had been coming in reported nothing new, except that her vitals had decreased a tiny percentage but nothing to worry over.
“I’d suggest saying you’re goodbyes now…it may be less painful later incase she doesn’t pull through” John suggested. He had done this many times. He left them to it and went to go inform his staff about the changes. He didn’t want to see them say goodbye, he still had the memories of watching them with Demi a few years ago when she wasn’t at her healthiest and he had told them because she was so weak they couldn’t be sure. It hurt enough then.
Dianna moved forward first, it was her baby girl laying there. “Where to start my baby girl” Dianna sat next to the bed, holding onto her daughters hand tightly. She sighed and brushed away a stray piece of hair from her face. “You’ll always be my middle girl and my little warrior” she felt the tears falling down her cheeks. She couldn’t even believe this was happening to her. She believed God made the right decisions, he made her stronger and allowed her to help thousands of other young people but right now he didn’t understand his choices, she had so much more to give.
Maddie wrapped her arms tightly around her mom, before kissing Demi’s forehead “thank you for everything Dem” she smiled softly. “You know, when I’m older I want to be just like you” she laughed softly, Demi would have been proud to have her little sister like her now.
“Well sis, it’s been you and me for a while hasn’t it, but remember no matter what happens we’ll always stick together?” she tries to break a smile. “You can go see Dad now, give him a hug yeah?” Dallas laughs softly at that thought. She never imagined loosing her little sister like this, but she’ll always be there with her, she believed that as did Demi.
Eddie makes his way over to the bed. “Demi, you were never mine by blood but you’ll always be mine in my heart. I watched you grow up and become such a strong woman and I’m so proud to have had that opportunity” his tears were now dripping down his cheeks. He couldn’t be the strong one anymore. He had seen her as a small child dancing around now here she was. Dianna got up and hugged her husband tightly, pecking his cheek gently.
“Wilmer do you want to say something?” Maddie quietly spoke to him breaking away from her parents. He was stood closest to the door where they had just came in. he had a sad look upon his face and he was just silently staring at her.
“I don’t think she’s going anywhere Mad” he walked over to his almost little sister, putting a supportive arm around her. “I trust Dems, I know she’ll come back to us…” he said it with such determination in his voice. He really believed in her that much. Maddie nodded for the first time with a little confidence in her eyes.
“Right come on girls, we’re going to go home, I’m sure Wilmer will stay and he’ll call us if anything happens yeah?” Eddie checked with him, Wilmer nodded and checked his phone quickly for battery percentage.
“I don’t want them seeing the machine being taken away..” Eddie whispered to Wilmer while the girls kissed and said goodbye to Demi for the night. Wilmer understood completely, he didn’t particular want to see this but he knew he had to be there for her, for his girl. They all came over to Wilmer and said goodbye before leaving.
They all walked out, and you could hear John’s voice in the corridor as he said goodbye to them. He came in and saw Wilmer still here. He assumed he was going to stay the night again. He had got the nurses to bring in some pillows for his comfort and he thanked them in return. The nurses came in again bringing in some tubes and with the help of John they carefully removed the tubes from her throat and then in turn began talking out the wires slowly of the machine. They had to make sure that her vitals didn’t change too much with the changes ongoing.
“Right, we’ll leave you two alone, i’ll keep checking up on her every now and then and some nurses will be taking the normal tests as before. Of course if theres anything you’re concerned about press the buzzer there and we’ll come straight away” John left Wilmer with the instructions for the night.
Demi was now laying there with just a simple IV drip in and some other small wires that were compulsory for patients. She looked even more normal now, like she was just sleeping. She didn’t look in pain or like she was suffering. Wilmer smiled to himself when he thought of how she’d react if she found out how many needles and how many wires were actually attached to her at one point.
He sighed as he watched the clock dials just turn and turn. He had been sitting without any change by her side now for the last three hours. He wasn’t tired anymore. He had grown out of being tired somehow. His body realised this situation and made sure he didn’t miss a thing. He hadn’t forgave himself for sleeping the other night and then looked what happened to her. He had hoped she’d wake up by now, he believed in her.
The silence was over taking his thought, it was giving him that negative energy that wasn’t needed, he didn’t want it. “Dem, do you remember that night when we went out and I told you I loved for the first time, and you just kissed me…” he spoke calmly to her…
“thank you for tonight wilmer…” demi blushed innocently, she had dressed up for their date in a long red dress, showing off the correct amount of curves, her hair was lightly curled and a slight bit was pinned up at the side, she allowed him to hold her hand and walk her to her door after they finished dinner.
“demi, before you go can we talk…” wilmer quickly announced, he said it so quickly he almost didn’t register what he had said. she nodded simply.
“demi, i want this, us, i mean i want us to try this…i love you” he blurted it out. he hadn’t regretted it, he knew he loved her, he knew it from the moment they met. it was really was love at first sight. she still had those adorable freckles and gorgeous eyes. he knew he wanted to look into her eyes till the end of their time.
demi moved closer towards him, her lips hooking onto his roughly to begin with, as they slowed down it was more passionate. she released from him minutes later. “i’d like that too” she giggled softly before turning around and going into her home. as soon as the door closed she jumped around like in the movies. she had found him. the one for her.
He felt a tear rush down his cheek as he remembered every single detail. That night had been the best. He had told the girl he loved since the first moment he met her, he loved her, he wanted to be with her. He never forgot it. “Do you know something you…” he picked her hand up and rubbed her skin carefully. “I don’t think I could get over you, like I don’t even know how people do it, I couldn’t ever forget you, or your smiles in the morning, the way you sing in the shower, and the way you eat your crisps so loudly…” he laughed at the end remembering the sound that came out of her mouth whenever she’d snack on a packet of crisps. “You’re my person baby” he smiled softly, he leant over kissing her gently on the lips. He had missed her touch, her warmth, her presence.
“I love you too” he heard her voice croakly reply. He thought he was dreaming, he shook his head a few times before looking down at his girl, her eyes were opening gently and her eyelids flickering as she adjusted to the light in the room. He saw her mouth moving a few times. She was awake. His girl had come through for him
