The region that Cywren had entered seemed to be very mountainous, but luckily, there seemed to be a path that was more or less pretty level.
She imagined that the mountians were probably much more impressive than what she was currently seeing. The explosion and aftermath of the bombs had probably worn them down considerably.
Still, the area had loads of hills and mountains, and the view of them sometimes made Cywren's jaw drop.
She guessed that based on their position, the mountains were
As the group walked, Cywren opened a bottle of water and drank it down. She was extremely tempted to drink some Nuka-Cola along with it, but she managed to control herself.
Night had fallen, but there was no shelter, so everyone had to continue to press on until they found something with a roof....
"Say, Cywren."
"Yes?"
"I might've asked this already, but... What compelled you to just... I don't know, come all the way up here?"
"I guess it's because I just have to be on the move, I can't seem to sit still for long anymore. Maybe it's because I grew up in a Vault and to finally be up here is freeing me of all that claustrophobia-inducing stuff."
"Okay, but... Why come here?"
"I dunno. I just did. I remember reading a little bit about stuff past the border before the war, I guess I wanna see how the whole place is holding up. Maybe I'm hoping for new stuff that the wasteland I've ventured can't offer."
"So... Based on speculation and stuff?"
"Yeah, pretty much."
"Well, we seem off to a pretty good start, I think."
"Yeah, I was thinking that too, look at the amount of these mountains! This must be part of what used to be known as 'the Rockies.'"
"Wow, that's actually pretty cool. How do you know all this stuff?"
"Well, you know I'm a big bookworm, right?"
"Did they have old geography books in your Vault?"
"Well, yeah. They had a bit of everything."
"Cool."
"Yep."
Cywren looked at the Pip-Boy on her wrist, then looked a bit concerned.
"Oh. Um... It looks like my Pip-Boy doesn't have a map of this area."
"... Is that bad?"
"Well, it just means that I don't have the data for this region installed. If we find a map chip somewhere, I'd be able to get the map, but until then, we're on our own."
"That's probably not good."
"Definitely not in the long run, but we should be fine for a while as long as we don't strand ourselves. Maybe we could try looking for a Vault?"
"Would there be any Vaults out here?"
"I don't see why not. Vault-Tec was a rich, successful company back in the old times, they could definitely extend their reach past just the US. Besides, this country was annexed during the war, so I think that technically means that they should've?"
"Well, let's keep an eye out for one, then."
"I don't think there would be one so close to the border. Those bunkers were typically in urban areas one way or another so that people could actually get to them in time. If there was a Vault on the outskirts of the country, that would be weird."
