i wasn't sure if it was my imagination or not but this was the third time i heard a small knock on our hotel room door. the first two times i thought it was in my dream and i just ignored it, but this time i definitely knew it wasn't in my dream. i slowly sat up and rubbed my eyes before grabbing for my phone that was on the nightstand. the bright screen illuminated my face and i had to squint for a minute before my eyes adjusted to the light.

2:55am who the hell was at our door at almost 3 in the morning?? the knocking continued and i glanced around to see if anyone else was hearing it. reagan and alyssa were passed out on the floor below my bed and lola was asleep in other bed while i'm pretty sure hailey was crashed on the floor on other side. maybe it was lara or avi because they were asleep in the next room over. but i figured they would have texted one of us or called if they needed to get in.

there was another knock and i finally pushed the covers off of myself and climbed out of bed. i carefully stepped over reagan and alyssa and quietly trailed to the door. i prayed i wasn't opening the door to some kidnapper. i unhooked the latch and quietly pulled the door open.

"it took you long enough." my eyes widened at the sight of dylan standing there with a smile on his face. i scrunched my eyebrows together in confusion.

"what the hell are you doing here?" i whisper-shout so i didn't wake up anyone.

"to see you?" dylan says like it was obvious and i make another face at him.

"dylan, it's like 3 in the morning. how the hell did you get here??" i had so many questions for this kid. he chuckles and shrugs slightly.

"well i had to sneak out, obviously so i couldn't take my phone or else my mom would know i left the house." dylan explains but it didn't explain how he got here. i glance behind myself to make sure everyone was still sleeping.

"that didn't answer my question though, how did you get here??" i ask turning back to him.

"i have my ways. now come on." he says motioning for me to follow him.

"where are we going?" i ask raising my eyebrow

"well you've already experienced vancouver in the daytime, but in the nighttime, it's a whole different story." he says with a smile

"isn't being out this late like, illegal?" i say

"no? what kind of country are you living in?" he chuckles and i roll my eyes. i bite my lip glancing back at everyone sleeping trying to decide if this is a good idea or not.

"okay, give me like 2 minutes." i say and he nods. i let him come into the room for a minute while i grab a sweatshirt to throw over my head and my phone from the nightstand. i find some shoes to put on, i wasn't sure if they were mine or not but they fit none the less.

"okay, i'm ready." i say making my way back over to dylan. he smiles widely and takes my hand as he pulls open the hotel door and pulling me down the hallway. we make our way to the elevator and it opens pretty quickly since no one else was awake at 3am like we were.

"should i trust your crazy plan in your head?" i ask glancing over at dylan. he glances over at me with a smile and nods.

"don't worry, vancouver in the night is something everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. it's safe and you can trust me." he says eyeing me and i chuckle.

"hey, i never said i didn't trust you." i say

"you were implying it though." he says and i just shake my head with a small smile. dylan plants a quick kiss on my lips before the elevator doors open and then he's pulling me into the main lobby. the person at the desk didn't even seem to pay attention to us as we easily slipped out and onto the streets.

"first stop, ice cream." he says and i raise my eyebrow

"i have a feeling we aren't gonna be sleeping after this." i say with a chuckle

"you think i was planning on sleeping? oooh dyl, you're so wrong." dylan laughs and i just roll my eyes. he pulls me down the street and i couldn't help but admire the pretty lights the buildings were giving off. dylan shifts our hands apart and moves to put his arm around my shoulders instead.

"see? i told you. look how amazing it is." dylan says glancing around and i had to admit, he was right. it was incredible how everything at night looked so much better than it did in the daytime.

"yeah you were right or whatever." i say and wink towards him. he chuckles and pulls me closer into his side. i feel him kiss the top of my head and i smile contently.

after getting ice cream and walking around the city to look at the pretty lights on the buildings we found ourselves sitting on some ledge of some sort to look at the sky and a very low light of the sunrise coming out.

"so what did you think?" dylan asks glancing over at me

"it was actually really fun. i liked it. this was fun. thank you." i say with a smile and dylan smiles too.

"good, i'm glad. i'm just trying to make use of the time we have left until you all leave." dylan says and i frown a little at shift in mood.

"this won't be the last time we see each other, you know that, right? you can come down to utah if you want before school starts in the fall. or i can come back up just by myself." i suggest and dylan smiles a little

"hopefully either way." he says and i move to rest my head on his shoulder. i pull my knees up to my chest and let out a small sigh.

"thanks for making this a really special birthday week." dylan says after a moment of silence. i glance up at him and he smiles down at me.

"would you say it's one of your best birthdays?" i ask and dylan thinks for a moment before nodding.

"actually, yeah. i got a girlfriend and all of my friends came to surprise me. i'd say best birthday yet." he says and i smile.

"just wait till next year, it will be even better and bigger." i say

"yeah? are you making that a promise?" he says and i nod

"definitely. actually, call it a challenge." i say and smirk and dylan chuckles.

"oh yeah, guess what." i glance up at dylan and he raises his eyebrow.

"what?" he asks

"sam thomas is still cooler than you." i say and dylan gives me a shove away from him while i burst out laughing.

"way to ruin the mood." he teases and i only shrug.

"i'm just saying it how it is." i say and he knew i was right. i glance at my phone to see the time, 5:45am. i figured we should probably get back before the girls start wondering where i went and start freaking out.

"come on, we should get back." i say glancing at dylan. he nods and i jump down from the ledge. he joins my side a moment later and i begin walking back down to the street but i feel dylan pull me back.

"one last thing." he mumbles before pulling me in for a kiss. i place my hands on the sides of his face and with the sun slowly rising behind us, you could almost say it was a picture perfect moment.
