As the day winded down to the end, there was an announcement over head, requiring all students to stay in their rooms until further notice.
“Something must have happened.” Kaori said as she made her way to the window along with all the other gasping people. Youko kind of dismissed it until she heard sirens. Then she came over and looked to see where they were headed. “That’s interesting.” Youko said casually. “Let’s go see what’s going on.”
“You heard the announcement. We have to stay in the classrooms until further notice.”
Youko gave Kaori a look that said any hope Kaori had of following the rules was now shot to pieces.
Sure enough, they were slinking out of the classroom while everyone else was distracted by smashing their faces against the windows, and soon they were outside headed to go see what was going on. It wasn’t a long walk before they got to the scene of the crime…. and what a scene it was. A body hanging from a pole with some wires wrapped around the mess of her body… it was horrific. Kaori gasped and covered her mouth when she saw it and Youko had to swallow a few times to get herself to calm down. They were lowering the body down now, trying to get it untangled from the mess.
“Careful with it! We have to examine it back at the labs you know!”
“Any damage I cause it will be because you wouldn’t shut up while I’m trying to focus!”
“Man it stinks...who would do something like this?”
It. It. It. It was a person. Still was a person. A dead person, but a person. They couldn’t even say she. Whoever it was, was just a corpse now… though she looked familiar.
“Isn’t that… the announcer woman? Mayumi Yamano?” Youko said softly to Kaori as she went closer and closer to the scene, trying to avoid the gaze of the highly irritated police officers. Kaori couldn’t bring herself to look up again.
“I...I think so. That might of been her… maybe- Saki!?”
Youko was confused until sure enough, there was Saki sitting nearby talking to a pair of cops. Youko had a half of a smile. She recognized one of them, Ryotaro Dojima.
He was a nice man, had a little daughter, Nanako. She’d met him a few times, mostly because Youko was always up to trouble someway some how… but she always managed to walk this weird line of not having done anything really bad enough to get her called in or anything… but enough that he would grumble at times when he saw her. It was so cute.
Sure enough, when Kaori said Saki’s name, Dojima looked up and saw the two. And grumbled a bit before coming over, carrying his coat over his shoulder as usual, leaving the younger guy to keep talking to Saki.
“Yamauchi. Konami. Didn’t the teachers tell you two to stay in class?”
Youko chuckled a bit.
“Oh, did they say that? I must have not heard over the sounds of the sirens. They’re just so alluring sometimes.”
He grumbled some more and Kaori flustered trying to fix the situation. She didn’t want to get in trouble.
“W-we were actually looking for Saki. She said she’d text me when she got home.” A little white lie never hurt anyone right?
“She never messaged me so, when I heard the sirens...I got worried. Is she okay?”
Dojima didn’t want to say too much but… really what was there to hide right now? The girls saw the body being lowered so it wasn’t like he could avoid it.
“She’s fine. She just discovered the body up there. That’s all. When Adachi is done asking questions, she’ll be good to go home… you two should head along too.”
