Youko was standing outside of the gates at the school, waiting for her friends, as usual.   She got a little curious when they hadn’t shown up by a certain time; the girls were usually spot on about their timing unless something held them up. And even then they’d let her know if they were late.

She checked her phone and there weren’t any messages.

“Well, it’s just home room. It’s not like I’ll miss anything important.” She always had some great reason to skip class, though she didn’t do it as often as she used to when she was a few years younger. She headed off toward where Saki and Kaori usually walked when they were headed to school, and eventually made it all the way to Saki’s house. She was surprised to see a cop car there along with Kaori who was looking nervous as can be.

“Hey Dojima-san. What’s the hold up?”

She came up to the car and had her arms crossed a bit in irritation as Kaori ran over to her panicking and hugged her.

“Saki’s missing! Apparently she left the station after talking to Adachi-san yesterday and...and she never made it home last night! Her family thought she might have been with us so they didn’t really say anything until I showed up to get her but…” Kaori was a mess. Her make up was ruined and she was crying all over Youko, who sheltered her the best she could in her arms.

The dark skinned girl looked at Dojima who looked stressed as could be. A murder, and now a missing kid. Adachi came up to them after having talked to her parents and a couple of neighbors.

“Oh. Good timing. Miss Youko… would you be able to answer a few questions?”

“Adachi!”

“I’m fine. I’ll answer.” Youko said patting Kaori’s head softly.

“Alright… so you’re one of Saki’s closest friends right? Has she been having trouble at home lately? Or at school?”

Kaori stopped sniffling and Youko was absolutely livid.

“...are you asking if I think she ran away?”

“It’s a possiblity. I mean, I know you guys are good friends and all… did she mention anything about running off?”

Kaori sniffled a bit. “Well she was saving money but…”

Dojima gave a sigh, almost of...releif.

Youko got even angrier at that.

“She didn’t run away. She didn’t leave. Something happened. She wouldn’t just… up and leave without telling us! We’re her best friends!”

“Well, maybe she didn’t-”

“Adachi.” Dojima had to stop him cause anything else he said was going to land Youko in a cell… after she pummeled the punk. But lucky for adachi, dojima stepped in.

“Uh...sorry. Right.”

Kaori straightened up the best she could, her eyes red and puffy. She wasn’t having the best day…

“Youko. You two should head to school. We’ll find Saki, don’t worry about it.” She didn’t light up like she usually did when dojima spoke and instead just turned with Kaori and headed to school.

That evening Youko sat at home watching the news. It was a rerun of the same clip from the day before where they had tried to interview Saki about when she found the body of Miss Yamano. The interview was completely pointless. There was nothing to learn. She saw a dead body. That was it. Why did they have to badger the poor girl like that? Youko did her school work in a rather robotic fashion, and filed it away neatly… then she was just… Too tired to go to her bed, she kind of fell asleep in front of the tv, lulled by the sound of the rain outside.
