Boogeyman
I got home and packed a few things, mostly just snacks. Dillon was home of course because he is a mystery writer. He was not too thrilled about going on some kind of scavenger hunt with another man, but I reassured him he has nothing to worry about. I was glad about being off the remainder of the week so Dillon and I could grocery shop and do some chores around the house. It wasn't long before Lucifer showed up to my door. I introduced Dillon and Lucifer and I could tell Dillon did not like Lucifer.
We were on the road before dusk, meeting up with the military calvary and going above and beyond the intended speed. It should have been a 7 hour and 53-minute trip, however we made it in exceptional time. "Where the fuck are we?" It was dark outside with hints of fog dancing across the newly paved entrance. We were pulling into a loading dock that looked like it hadn't been used in ages. Lucifer began to point to the only 18-wheeler in the dock area "That's where the package will be." I adverted my eyes back to the 18-wheeler, it looked like it had been just sitting there with no reason to exist anymore. All of the tires had been flat, with a moss green covered some of the 18-wheeler. "This is all too creepy." My mouth slightly agape admiring the creepiness of it all. I could feel a slight elevation of my heart rate and took a swig of water. Just go in and get out, grab the package and run like hell. I was scared yet excited, it all seemed unreal. The military calvary began to complete to a complete stop making a circle loop with their vehicles around the 18-wheeler and their high beams giving its attention to the long forgotten 18-wheeler. "It's all you babe." I darted my eyes to Lucifer "Don't call me that." I opened the door and began to walk to the truck as I could feel prying eyes. I guess they were just as curious as I was wanting to know what was behind those doors. The doors to the back of the trailer opened with a little force. The creaking sound it made startled me just enough to make my heart beat even faster. There was no need for me to use a flashlight since the high beams of the cavalry shined into the near empty trailer. I could see it once I opened the doors completely. A manilla folder taped to the very back wall of this trailer. I could hear chatter behind me from all the men waiting to know what was inside. I ripped the tape from the wall and kept the folder firmly in my hand as I walked to the exterior of the truck and hopped down. It wasn't until I was almost back to the car when I noticed what was written on the envelope 'Boogeyman'. It looked like it was written with a finger and smeared with blood. Well, this night just got 1000 's worse. I began to trace my finger along the outer edges of the item that was in the envelope. A VHS tape, at least that's what it felt like. I tried to conjure up X-ray vision to see through the envelope with no avail. "Hurry up back there sugar tits! I'm ready to go!" I ignored his remark and placed the envelope carefully in the back of the trunk. I let out a sigh of relieve knowing we will be on our way home very soon. "You okay? Look like you've seen a ghost?" Oh, he had no idea... "Yeah. Just drive." I looked straight forward just wanting silence.
After a few hours on the road I softly said, "Do you believe in the boogeyman?" I looked straight ahead while biting my bottom lip nervously still wondering what is in the package – it can't be good. For some odd reason, I knew it was meant for me. Thinking about the package was already eerie, however, in an instant, the chill factor become more so noticeable. What is going on here? "Don't look in the backseat." Lucifer whispered almost unnoticeable while keeping his eyes on the road. But did I listen? Absofuckinglutely not! I turned my head slightly to the left to look between the front seats to find an unknown passenger in the backseat. His smile was sinister with sharp teeth protruding from his mouth, he almost looked fake because his skin was perfectly smooth. I squinted my eyes together and jerked my head back and started screaming in panic. I guess Lucifer was startled by my sudden outburst, he slammed on the breaks and the car was spinning in circles on the road. My head was like a bobble head and kept moving back and forth quickly while I was pushing my hands against the roof of the car as leverage trying to keep a steady grip. As soon as the mayhem began the car squealed to a halt and it was quiet – deathly quiet.
