Jordyn was so deep in thought that she forgot all about waiting for Trent, and headed straight for the bus. As she boarded, she noticed Virgil was already on board, and decided to sit beside him again. He smiled at her as she joined him.
"Thanks for earlier," she said quietly. "I don't think Hendo realised there was two sides to that argument. How did you know Ellie'd been needling me?"
"I mean, you kinda said it, to be fair," he replied. "But I noticed... you've not been yourself these past few weeks. I figured that was why."
"You're pretty observant," she said. "My best friend didn't even notice that, thought I'd hidden it well enough."
"Well like I said," Virg chuckled, "Trent is a little occupied these days."
"What, you mean with Ellie?" Jord wondered. "What are you referring to?"
"Wait," said Virg, turning in his seat to look at her directly. "You mean you haven't noticed at all? Open your eyes, Jord!"
"What hasn't she noticed?" Asked Hendo, joining them in the seat in front. "Thanks for earlier by the way, Virg."
"Why is everybody thanking me?" Virg wanted to know. "Why are YOU thanking me, Hendo?"
"You helped me do my job," Hendo retorted, with a laugh. "You'd make a good captain one day, you know. I never clocked there was more to that argument back there."
"I'm happy to help, man," Virg smiled at him.
"And Jord," he said, "If something's bothering you like that, you need to speak up, okay? Don't just let it go until it causes a big issue, you don't have to suffer in silence."
"Yeah, you can talk to any of us, you know," added Virg.
"I'll tell someone next time," she promised. "Sorry."
"You're fine, Jord, don't worry," Hendo shook his head.
"Huh," Virgil mused. "You'll never walk alone, I guess."
Hendo laughed at him, and nodded to the two of them, before turning round to converse with Robbo and Milly in the row in front, satisfied with what he had heard.
The ride home was relatively peaceful, compared to the chaos that had ensued in the dressing room earlier. It was raining a little, and Virg rested his head against the window, watching the water droplets run down the side of the bus.
"That game was exhausting," he murmured to Jordyn. "You can rest on me, if you want. I know the middle seat's uncomfortable when you just wanna sleep."
"Sweet," Jord smiled, instantly moving to rest her head on his shoulder. "I'll take that as license every time now, just so you know."
"I thought you might," he chuckled. "You're tiny, so it's fine. And anyway, I told you I like hugs."
