Echoes And A Maze

Chapter 7

I was exhausted and wanted to go to sleep but Gally stopped me ''Wait a minute. You and Thomas broke the rules. Both of you went into the maze. We're going to talk with all the keepers right now about this.'' I really wanted to go to sleep but I walked with Thomas to a wooden house with a wicker roof where all the keepers were. It was like 12 of them. ''Can we do this fast. I'm shucking exhausted'' I said. ''No, you can't. You chose yourself to go into the maze and stay awake all night'' Gally said. I rolled my eyes and sat down. ''So the greenie and the girl broke our rules and went into the maze last night. We lived 3 years with these rules, they can't be broken.'' ''Why? They saved Alby's life by going into the maze'' Newt said. ''So you think that for just saving 1 life they shouldn't be punished?'' ''I think, I know. That they shouldn't be punished. They saved someone's life with risking their own'' With every sentence Newt said Gally's face got more red. Winston saw this and said: ''Okay before we start fighting'' He glanced at Gally ''Let's hear what Minho has to say, he was there with them'' ''Minho?'' Newt asked.

Minho stood up and started talking: ''Newt here is right, I was with them. When I started running because I saw a griever coming closer these 2 shanks stayed to help Alby. They did and almost got eaten by the griever. Sometime later I found them. They killed a griever. Whatever stupidity those 2 have, we need more of it. I say we make them runners.'' Then the peace in the room broke. ''Woah! Stop. We can't make them runners cause they killed something.'' Gally said. ''Gally, if you were half dying in that maze, you would be glad someone saved your life''  I said. Gally looked at me like he could explode at any time. 

Suddenly we heard a siren. The siren that would sound any time if the box would come up. Everyone's faces had made a place for confusion. Thomas had been here only for a couple of days. Why did the box come up? Everyone who was in the hut came out. The other gladers were already standing at the box. ''Make way,'' Newt said and went to open the box. I couldn't see a thing. I heard whispers when the box was opened. Would it be a girl? ''It's a girl...'' Newt said. I got a grin on my face. Finally a girl! But why hadn't she said something? I got in the front. ''Newt, she has a note there,'' Thomas said. Newt read it: ''She's the last one ever... What the hell is that supposed to mean?'' Then suddenly the girl woke. Everyone stepped back. The gasped and said a name ''Thomas...'' then she passed out. When she was breathing calmly everyone looked up to Thomas. He was as surprised as we were. Awkward... Jeff and Clint lifted the girl on the brand card and took her to the med. I hadn't had a good look at her. She was wearing a white jacket, black pants and a baby blue shirt. She had dark brown, almost black hair. When she had opened her eyes in the box we saw that she had blue eyes and a bit freckles. How did the girl know Thomas but Thomas didn't seem to recognize her?

Thomas, Newt, Minho and I went to the med to check on her. Alby his bed was placed next to a corner. He was shaking so hard. It looked like he was possessed or something. ''Tommy, why did she say your name?'' Thomas said he didn't know. ''What are we supposed to do with the note?'' ''Don't know'' Thomas said again. ''We'll deal with that later,'' Minho said. ''I'm going into the maze for that griever,'' Thomas said. ''Why? You just came out.'' Newt said, Thomas, didn't hear that and was already gone. Minho and I walked outside to stop him. ''Dang Tom, we are just out. Why you wanna go in again?'' ''I have to know or the griever is some kind of clue. You haven't been this close in like ever.'' I stayed silent cause I knew he was right. ''Meet me in the forest in half an hour, both of you,'' Minho said and left. 

Half an hour later Thomas and I waited outside the 'forbidden map hut' for Minho. Then he came with Frypan and Zart. They would join us he said. 5 minutes later we ran the maze in and looked for the dead griever which we found pretty fast. ''That's one griever pancake'' Frypan said. You could hear he was scared in his voice. ''Hey, I see something shiny'' I said. It was a metallic shine. ''Let's see what it is,'' Minho said and without any thinking, he puts his arm in the griever. ''Ehwwww. Dude!'' Most of us said. ''It looks like some sort of big tracker,'' Thomas said. Minho turned it and said: ''Hey, maybe this is some clue.'' He tapped on a 7. ''Let's go back before the doors close again.'' Winston said. ''Agree, Don't wanna be here for another night...'' I said. We ran from the griever but took the tracker thing. 

When we arrived at the glade we went with the thing to Newt and he said: ''This is the same initials which stand on the deliveries from the box. It's weird'' Gally came to us and said: ''So shanks. Ready for a punishment?'' I thought we were over that Gally!'' I said. ''Nope, we aren't, rules are rules and you and greenie broke them.'' He said. ''Can we calm down, we just find the first clue in 3 years. 3!'' Thomas said. ''1 night in the pit'' Newt said. ''1 night in the pit? You think that is gonna stop them from going into the maze again?'' ''Let's just make this official. 1 night in the pit, then you are runners like Minho wants.'' I nodded. ''Wow, you people are crazy.''
