"You did what??" "I know...and I'm really sorry. I mean we always do this and now, hours after the one game that I needed to come back from, I hurt myself. It was very stupid of me. I'm sorry Coach." He smiles softly. "You don't need to come back from anything. Your game last week was phenomenal. You were amazing. You just scared yourself. That's normal. Don't worry about it." I nodded and walked to class.
After lunch, I had two free periods, so I would usually go to the practice field and get in a bit of practice by myself. Today, I obviously couldn't do that, so I went into the student council room, which I am the president of, and did some student council planning. With our annual Powder Puff game coming up, I had lots of preparation to do. Football
Homecoming was quickly approaching as well.Lila dropped in a few minutes after the next class began to help me. She had a chemistry test to study for so she couldn't help too much. But we also figured out when our monthly soccer team sleepover was going to be. We decided it would be at her house on the 22nd of September. The week before Homecoming.
"How did Coach react when you told him you couldn't play for two weeks?" "Eh, he wasn't happy but he definitely didn't act like I totally screwed up either." "Good, because you didn't screw up. I don't understand why you think you did."After school, I picked my siblings up from school and drove them to the park. This had been our tradition since I could drive. "So how were your guys' days?" I asked as they got in. "Good! We got to play outside most of the day, and when we weren't outside, we were painting! I love school!" Jozilyn babbled on and on. "I'm glad you had fun Baby. Jacob, how about you?" "It was good. We really didn't do much, so there isn't much to complain about." I smiled and got out, picking up Jordan who we had picked up from daycare. "Okay guys, I'm sorry but we can't stay here for too long, I have lots to do today and I need you guys to be okay with that, understood?" "O...okay." Jozilyn pouted. "Oh Baby don't pout. You'll still have time to play, and if I get done in time, maybe I'll bring you guys back, okay?" "Oki!!" She ran off following Jacob somewhere.
After we left the park, I took them home and made them a snack. "Mom and Dad should be home soon, Jacob can you get Jozilyn's spelling packet from her bag and study those with her while I start on dinner and give Jordan a bath?" "Yeah."
Knock. Knock.
I opened the door and Lilia was there. "Hey, come in." She smiled and walked inside as I shut the door. "Woah your house is never this quiet, where are the kids?" "Parents took them to that drive in movie. Said they deserved it for being so good for me this week. But it actually helped me. I was able to finish all the plans for Powder Puff, and finish all my homework as well as get the house clean."
"Jul, you're supposed to be taking things easy, I think you're upping your stress levels by like 1000 percent." "How? I always do this stuff. Just because my ankle hurts doesn't mean I'm going to let it take over everything I do." She frowned. "I know but still, you should be careful." I nodded. At least she cares.-Next day-
"Julianne, Dad and I have to work late tonight. I need you to run Jordan to his play date, Joz to ballet and Jacob to his football practice. Then I need you to come home, get dinner ready and have all the kids home before 7:30, and in bed by 8. Please." So much for being careful. "Okay Momma, but I also have that nanny gig today, so I have 4 other kids to run around all afternoon as well. We're going to need to switch cars.""Yoo! Reynolds! How've you been??" Ella ran up to me and hugged me tight. "Ella!! You're back. I missed you." Ella has been in California visiting her sick grandmother. She's been gone for about two months and had no idea when she'd be back. "It's been forever. What happened to your leg?" "I sprained it racing Lilia down the stairs." "Oh gosh, so how's that going?" "H..how's what going?" I asked confused. "You and Lilia?" "I don't know what you mean El." "You like her don't you?" How did she-
My thoughts were cut off when Lilia jumped on her and screamed. "ELLA BELLA IS THAT REALLY YOU!?" "It is. But calm down bro, you just scared half the freshman population." They laughed and soon our other best friend Lola joined us. Our group was finally back. I missed us.I had convinced Lilia to join me while I drove kids around and we talked pretty much the entire time. I loved it. Although I really couldn't get what Ella had said out of my head. How could she have known? Does everyone know? Most importantly, does Lilia know..?? Oh no. If she knows I'm totally screwed.
"Hey Sissy. I have a question." Jozilyn asked as she got in the car. "Yes, Honey?" "Are girls allowed to marry girls?" I smiled softly. "Of course they are sweetheart, why?" "My teacher said they weren't and that if I marry a girl, God would hate me and I would go to hell....what's hell?" I sighed. "Here, I have an idea, how about you focus on your class for right now and then after, we'll ralkyou're going to go to your ballet class and we will talk after, okay Princess?" "Oki Sissy."
I drove to pick up the other kids and listened to her babble on and on about how she used to think her teacher was so smart but now she doesn't know.
I got to the kids I was supposed to be picking up's house, and parked. "Hey guys, I'm going to need you to get out and stand right next to the car. We have to put a few more car seats in here. So Jacob, I need you to get in the very back first. And I want you both the be on your best behavior for me. If you aren't, you won't get a special treat." I got out and went in to grab the four kids.Lilia had to leave for soccer practice so I drove her there. "Byeeeeee. I love youuu." She smiled and got out. "Bye babes, love you tooo." I laughed and drove to the house.
When I got home. I started to clean, got my homework out, and began dinner when the doorbell sounded. I ran to open it and smiled. "Hey El, come in, what's up?" I walked back into the kitchen motioning her to follow me. "Nooothinggggg." She giggled. "What?? Tell me tell me tell me!!!" I begged and began cooking.
"Welll I was at soccer practice when I saw Lilia and whenever I went to talk to her, she was giggling and looked really happy so when I asked her what was up, and she told me that you two were just hanging out, I got so happy I came straight here!" "Oh...uh...ok?" I was confused. Why was she telling me this? "It's so obvious what the heck!" "Huh??" "She likes you!!" No. No way. Not possible. "You have to do something!!" "Like what??" "I dunno, ask her to hoco? That'd be amazing. She'd totally say yes."I thought for a second. Sure I didn't have a date, and maybe she would say yes, but what would that mean for our friendship? That could make or break everything. She could end up hating me for the rest of our lives. "Stop overthinking. It's going to be fine. But for now, you need to focus on this pile of homework and everything else you need to get done. Do you need any help?"
We worked on getting everything done, and even invited Lilia and Lola to come after soccer practice if they wanted to. They did. Ella picked up the kids that didn't live here and took them home, and while Lola picked up my siblings, Lilia began to get all their baths ready, and helped cook dinner while I focused on cleaning and getting my homework done.
"So...uh can we talk now Sissy?" I smiled softly and picked her up. "First of all, I just want you to know that you can be anything you want to be, girl or boy, princess or prince, you should never allow someone to limit you to just one thing. Second, people who are married to the same gender can't help who they love, and God doesn't hate them for that. God loves each and every one of us, no matter who we are, where we come from and who we're going to be. So don't listen to people who say any different." She giggled softly. "Oki Sissy. I wuv you!" I smiled softly and put her down. She ran off and I sat down researching creative ways to ask her to Homecoming. I had no idea what I could possibly do. Everything I thought of, seemed too cheesy.
