"I don't believe it," I laughed in disbelief. Y/N looked shocked, and frankly, a little scared. Who could blame her? She'd just created a 6.5 tremor with her bare hands. I'd be scared too.

"What the...? How did this...? Tom, what happened to me?" She breathed, terrified.

"Well, I'm not a hundred percent sure," I started, "but I think you...you somehow absorbed Apathy's magic when she bit you. That explains why you didn't die."

"You know what else that means, don't you?" Y/N looked at me like a lightbulb had just gone off. I just blinked confusedly. "It means I can defeat her! I'm the one in a millennium!"

"How do you figure?" I asked.

"Because I have her magic. I'm as powerful as she is. I just have to learn to use it."

POV SWITCH

The boys had been avoiding me all day. Even Paddy, which concerned me deeply. But I had to put my thoughts aside in order to focus on the task at hand: learning to control my powers. Tom had led me out of the house and into the rolling moors beyond the confines of the estate. We'd gone so far out that I couldn't even see the tip of the northmost turret of the manor anymore. It was for everyone's safety...after all, I'd just created an earthquake with a magnitude record for the past hundred years in that area.

"So how do we do this?" I asked, looking at my hands. Tom shrugged.

"I really don't know. I'm no expert on the paranormal. I'm just a guy, remember?"

"That's fair," I sighed. I really had no idea where to start, so I just started moving my arms radically, flailing them above my head like a madwoman.

"Stop, stop, stop," Tom laughed. "I do know you're not going to get anything done like that. Just...try to think of what you want to do and make it happen."

"Sure, that's easy," I replied, rolling my eyes playfully. But I did what he told me. I sat on the ground, dug the tips of my fingers into the dirt and thought long and hard about what I wanted to do. I took a deep breath and just thought.

"Y/N?" I heard Tom say warily. I was too deep in concentration to respond. "Y/N!" he shouted this time. My eyes snapped open just in time to see everything suspended in the air around me for a solid second. Wildflowers with the long grass still tucked around their stems, their roots hanging down like icicles (A/N: That's a funny word to spell haha) from the eaves of my family home in the wintertime...pebbles that were sitting beside me, autumn leaves that had fallen from their limbs...all floating around me. Then, my eyes widened and everything fell to the floor with a sound like rain.

"I guess you're right," I breathed dazedly. "It's all in concentration."

"Yeah," Tom nervously gulped. "Well, you're going to need to do a lot more than levitate things if you're going to kill Apathy." My eyes snapped to him.

"K-kill her? You want me to kill her?"

"How else will she ever go away? She's a witch, Y/N. And she won't be stopped unless we destroy her."

"No," I replied. My voice broke. "There's got to be another way. I'm not doing that again." Tom looked at me...somewhere in between shocked and confused. I silently cursed myself, but I was careful not to mean it, lest I actually ended up with a self-inflicted hex.

"What?"

"Nothing. Forget about it. I'll find another way."

POV SWITCH

I watched her turn away from me. Although I'm sure Y/N didn't actually mean she'd ever killed someone, I sensed she'd rather me drop the subject.

"Alright. Try to knock that tree over," I commanded. I was, however, distracted by what Y/N had said. I tried to shake it from my mind and focus on her. Her shining eyes. Her windblown hair. Her pillowy lips. No. It would be better to focus on the fact that she could be a murderer rather than the way I felt for her. Did I feel for her?

"Tom?" Her voice pulled me back to reality.

"Hm?"

"I said I'll kill it if I do that." She looked sadly over at the old naked tree, standing lonely a hundred feet away in the middle of the moor. So caring...no, Tom. You're dead.

"Then revive it when you're finished," I replied absently. "You can do anything now." Y/N nodded resolutely and took a deep breath. Then, she pressed her wrists together, splayed her hands, and pushed forcefully outward, like something out of Doctor Strange...I suppose that's where she got it from. Maybe it helped her feel more comfortable with what she was doing.

There was a large cracking noise and the tree fell to the ground with a large boom. The earth shook a little bit. Y/N smiled proudly, then used one hand to bring it back up and revive it.

"It's easy, really," she told me. "It's just energy."
