How far would you go in the name of love?

This was the last question Taeyeon had asked her younger sister. The last conversation they had, which ended in a fight and Yerim walking out of the house, never to be seen or heard again.

To the ends of the World and beyond.

That was Yerim's answer. Her little sister was always a dreamer, a lover. The type of soft and pretty girls who had stars in their eyes, and lit the whole universe up with a smile.

Taeyeon had found that answer ridiculous back then. It was utterly disgusting to her how Yerim was so willing to risk it all for someone else. Didn't she know better? Everyone leaves at some point. Doing so much for another person was a poor investment.

Little did she know, two centuries later, she'd be saying the same. Making the same decision.

It was almost like a cruel joke how everything in life turned out. She'd initially adopted these three kids as her human shields, her sacrificial lambs when things went south.

But when one of them were actually going to get sacrificed for her, she felt so antsy, so trapped.

She'd always thought the ones to come for her first would be the Lees, or maybe the Parks, one of the local clans, for sure. But look how things turned out.

She thought she could keep her feelings at bay, keep herself detached, but the three of them grew on her unexpectedly. They melted the cold around what was left of the dark, twisted heart of the cruel White Lady, and they accepted her with open arms. They expressed their love rather differently, San was very loud about it, Daniel was more towards the silent respectful actions, and Seulgi...she did it in her own strange insulting way.

Taeyeon had no idea when the switch in her flipped, but she did wake up one day and realised that she was starting to really like the three, and she would really hate seeing them get hurt. The motherly acting became real, became passionate. And she was scared. She was scared because she started really caring how they felt about her, a shitty mother who ruined their childhood by teaching them how to handle weapons instead of letting them play with toys, by sitting them down and letting them undergo simulations after simulations, each more horrifying than the other so they could get use to the sight of blood, getting hurt and getting tortured.

Had she remained unscathed, uncaring, she'd probably be flipping through yet another of her Dan Brown books, or scouring through the newspapers for interesting happenings in the city. But instead she was packing her luggage, readying herself for the trip to Macau, the trip to her death.

She had done her panicking, she'd exhausted herself crying. All that was left in her now was resigned guilt. She should have sent San to Singapore with Seulgi. The two had better odds when they were together. Seulgi always had unnatural luck when it came to escaping danger too. San could have been fine now.
