Chapter 19: The Birth

Chapter 19: The Birth.

''Raina dearest, ''Caius said. ''Here let me help you lay down. ''

I tried to relax my body, but pain gripped my whole being. I arched my body as Caius held my hand. ''Raina steady breaths. ''Caius encouraged me while soothing back my damp hair from my face.

''How can it be so soon Caius? ''I cried out while squeezing his hand. The baby moved further down, and I screamed. ''It hurts! ''

Carlisle position himself at the end of the table and took a look at my birthing canal and inspected me. ''This baby wants to come out the natural way. Raina you're almost fully dilated. ''

Carlisle motioned to Bella and she came forward and whispered something in his ear and she stared at me in shock and soon went into motion. The doctor smiled up at me. ''You're doing fine breathe, ''he says gently.

I nodded my head as sweat rolled down from my forehead to my face. ''OK Raina, you're doing very well, it's time to push, so bear down. ''

I could feel my body going tense and I clutched at Caius as I pushed. The rapid speech of the vampires in the rooms sung to me; vibrating in my ear as I focused with all my might to complete this very human task. The baby moves gradually with each contraction and push as it helped the baby out of my body. Because my baby was a hybrid it was so difficult then what I had imagined. Carlisle said that this baby would eat it its way out but that was not the case for me, but it was hard, nevertheless.

''Come on Raina. We know you can do this. Just keep pushing. ''Bella said somewhere near me.

I tried to pinpoint where she was but was forced to keep my eyes shut as waves of pain rolled over me. I pushed again. I looked up at Caius's eyes and he seemed to worry for me or was it just for the baby. I may never really know the truth. Sadness started to sink into my soul like a disease. I collapse back sobbing.

''Come on you can do this don't give up, Raina. ''Carlisle urged me on.

I leaned into Caius's robe. His scent brought me much needed comfort. His arm went around my shoulders and held me close. ''I said I will never leave you or forsake you my love and I meant it. ''

Bella stepped forward and held a bottle to my mouth. ''Drink this Raina, drink it all. ''

''Why, I can hardly swallow. ''I say in agony.

''The baby needs this so you can deliver this baby naturally. Otherwise the baby would tear you apart to get out. '' Bella explained.

I was in sheer terror. Just what kind of monster eats its mother? I could have fainted if it weren't for Caius. He kept me focused and helped Bella poured the blood down my throat.

Suddenly, I saw Athenodora slip in silently, standing in the darkened corner. She smiled as she saw the shock on my face. No! No! Anyone but her. I wanted to tell Caius too, to warn him but they were all focused on me and I was in too much pain. I saw her evil calculating eyes room over the scene with interest. She was planning I could see her body language and knew she was thinking what she could do to complete here evil plan. Oh God, what will I do? She wanted me dead, and my baby she wanted to steal.

Silent tears leak down cheeks and Caius kiss them away. My cries echoed the room as I felt my baby start to emerge from my body.

''OK it's time for the last push. ''Carlisle said encouragingly.

''Go Raina now give it all you got.'' Bella said.

Caius held on to me, lending his strength as I let out a strangled cry and pushed until I felt the baby slip out of me. Immediately the room was filled with a shrill cry of my newborn. The audience burst into clapping while Doctor Cullen instructed Caius to cut the cord. Then he gave the baby to Bella to clean and swaddle in a blanket.

''Congratulations, Raina, and Caius, it's a boy. ''Bella beamed as she moved to hand the baby to Caius.

Unexpectedly pandemonium erupted in the room. I saw Athenodora charge Bella.

''My baby! ''I screamed.

Caius flitted to head off his wife as she reached towards my baby. The guards we're coming in now and Bella hid behind Caius as she crouched ready for Athenodora to attack.

Bella backed away slowly towards me, Caius moved to take Bella by the arm and steer her behind him. I continued to reach for my baby boy. Bella hastened a glance over her shoulder towards me and cautiously turned and handed me my sweet boy. Growls and snarls erupted in the room as I held my baby close. I was scared Athenodora looked so feral. I held my baby to my breasts and hoped my lover and his friends could stop this crazed female.

The vampire standoff seemed to last a long time. No one moved just eyes moved about planning their next move. I knew this wife of Caius was crazy but not this insane. Felix now inch towards her from the door and Caius saw his opportunity.

''Felix! ''Caius commanded. The enormous muscle clad guard pounced on Athenodora. She hissed and growled wildly struggling against the bigger vampire's strength.

''You betrayer! '' Caius snarled, coming forth and grabbed Athenodora by the hair. ''You dare and try and attack my mate and my child!''

''I am your wife and that girl dies now. I will be the baby's mother. It is my right. You promised me. ''

Gasping resounded around the room. Bella immediately took my hand and Carlisle stood in front of me protectively.

''I changed my mind, 'Caius said to Athenodora.

''You will betray me for this little blood bag whore!'' She yelled.

Caius sprang from his crouch position and seized Athenodora by the head. He nodded to Felix and I watched him pull on her limbs and tore her little body apart. With one sickening crack Caius pulled off Athenodora's head.

''Take her and burn her. ''Caius commanded Felix.

The muscle clad guard gathered up Athenodora's remains and was gone.

Caius was not settled in his emotions until he was by my side again. I was impressed by his bravery too, not only in protecting me, but destroyed his wife. There was no way she could have spared herself. When she decided to attack, that was it my lover, he was not going to stand for that.

Now he gathered me up in his arms. My baby softly cried against me now searching for my breast. He found my nipple and started to feed. I sighed against Caius chest and laid my head against his shoulder. It was a beautiful sight and a feeling that could only come from motherhood. I was nourishing my baby boy and contentment washed over me.

Then Carlisle appeared by my side. ''I have blood in this bottle when he is satisfied with your milk, offer him this.''

I looked at the crimson bottle with uncertainty, but Caius nodded and urged me take it. Soon the baby released my nipple and I gave him the bottle. He looked up into my eyes with his baby blue ones and sucked eagerly until the bottle is half gone. Then without much coaxing my baby drifted off to sleep.
