I gripped the strap of my bag tightly as I looked up the run-down building. 'This is the building for the infamous 8th?...' I took a deep breath; don't judge a book by it's cover right?

With my free hand, I rapped my knuckles gently against the grand door. A few seconds pass by with no answer. 'Maybe I didn't knock hard enough."

I brought my hand up once again, but before my hand could make contact, the door swung open.

Two boys were quite literally butting heads right in the door way, one with black hair and one with blond. "I got here first, there's no way you beat me," the black haired boy grunted through gritted teeth.

"You may have fast feet, but I was already opening the door before you heard a knock," the boy with blond hair stated, pressing harder against the black haired boy.

Were they fighting... over who answered the door first? "Um, I'm sorry to interrupt but I need to speak to the-"

Before I could finish my sentence, a tall man wearing a cap reading "Organic" across the front came up behind the boys, grabbing their shoulders. Instantly, they stopped, the black-haired boy's face quickly breaking into a smile. Also, now that their heads were no longer pressed together, I could see that the blond-haired boy had some of his hair pulled upwards, sticking up towards the sky. The man began to speak, "What are you two making all of this unnecessary noise for?" While I wasn't the one getting scolded, I could still feel a shiver of fear run down my spine.

"U-uh, we heard a knock lieutenant, and we were simply checking on who it could be." The boy with the smile had sweat starting to form on his forehead. Speaking of checking on who could be at the door seemed to trigger his memory though, and as his face released its smile, his eyes traveled down towards me.

The lieutenant's eyes did the same, and I felt like they were stabbing me. I swallowed softly and tried to gain the courage to form sentences again, "Um... I'm the new recruit, and I.. well um, I was the one knocking and.." I couldn't seem to form a thought under the lieutenant's oppressive gaze.

The black-haired boy let out a gasp and stepped forward towards me, "You're the one the captain was talking about yesterday," he put his hands on my shoulders, "Can I see them? Can I?"

"Hey, Shinra, who do you think you are conjugating with the newbie before me?" Conjugating? It was the blond boy talking, and I noticed that he was making his way towards me as well. "It's a knight's duty to protect those against a devil such as you."

"Eh? What are you on about Arthur?" The boy whose name seemed to be Shinra took his eyes off of me, looking at the guy he called Arthur challengingly.

Before another fight could break out though, the intimidating lieutenant peeled Shinra off of me. "Follow me. I'm going to take you to the captain," he stated before turning around and walking back into the building. Without any hesitation, I followed, hearing the other two quickly do the same.

After an introduction with captain Obi, a tall man who obviously is a training maniac, and the rest of the squad, I was shown to my room. I was the only one in the room, and I didn't know if that was a good or bad thing right now. I sighed, throwing my bag gently onto the floor and sprawling across the bottom bunk of the bunk bed. My eyes traveled lazily around the room, leaving lasting glances at the desk and window before making their way to the ceiling.

I was alone with my thoughts for what felt like a few seconds before the door was thrown open, "Newbie!" I shot up, my head hitting the top of the bunk.
