Chapter 28

Cam’s POV

Later that afternoon

“Where’s the place that means the absolute most to you from where you grew up?” Eleanor asked me as I was driving back to hotel.

“That’s actually a really good question,” I sighed, trying to come up with some answers.

“You can name up to three. Naming just one is tough,” she added to her original thought.

“My house, for one. But really the shade trees out in the back with the hammock,” I explained. “The best naps are taken there. Um, the second would have to be the square downtown. Great place, everything I did as I grew up was centered around that area. And the third, although it wasn’t part of my life until college, the bar.”

“The bar?” Louis questioned.

I laughed, “The bar I was discovered in. The bar where my entire career in music started.”

“Are we going to get to see this bar?” Ed asked, leaning forward directly behind my ear.

“Do you want to see the bar?” I retorted, mostly because I knew the answer.

“Well, it is a bar, so…” Ed whispered back to me. I laughed.

“We’re going to the bar tonight.” There were small cheers from behind me. “I will warn you: It’s a small, quaint bar. At least it used to be, but I don’t think Lucas changed much when he took over.”

“Wait, Lucas?” Niall was the first to respond.

“Yeah, Lucas bought the bar a few months ago,” I told them as I took the final turn into the parking deck for the hotel. I found a spot near the other rental cars that we had. We all followed the small group of security who had been with us all day.

Liam caught up with me and took my hand in his, squeezing lightly. I smiled at him and moved closer to his side. Andy was walking on his other side, telling all of us a joke. We entered the lobby in a cluster of laughter. Matt was walking from the other side of the lobby with Stuart, Paul, and Jeff. Each of them appeared to be carrying several room keys in their hand.

We met in the middle and Jeff was the first to do anything by wrapping me into a hug. I left his arms and stepped back, waiting for them to tell us what we were going to do next. “The room numbers and room assignments are written on the front of the card,” Paul said, handing out several cards at once.

“We’re leaving whenever all of you are ready tonight and I think all of us are going,” Matt said, looking from all of us to the security men behind us. “So you can go hang out in your rooms, your luggage should already be there.” They dismissed us fairly quickly, and I sent Liam ahead.

“I’ll catch up, I need to talk with Jeff for a minute,” I told him before he kissed my forehead and left with others for the elevator. I walked up to Jeff who was waiting with Matt. Jeff gave me another hug. “Everything is going as planned for tomorrow, right?”

Jeff looked at Matt who nodded. “The house is set up, the director came and set up a few lights and the camera for the first shot tomorrow. Everything was good.”

“And the house?” I asked hesitantly.

“It looked the same, nothing was out of place,” Matt assured me. I nodded taking a deep breath.

“Are you going to be ready for tomorrow?” Jeff questioned me.

“I don’t think anything will help me get ready for tomorrow,” I confided in them. “Just two things: I don’t want the guys to be there for the worst part of the filming, all they’re going to do is watch me be emotional. They can come if they really want, but the first few hours need to be just me and the crew. Second, can someone else be designated driver tonight? I can get us there, but can someone else get us back?”
