lydia's eyes kept reading the words over and over again. she envied the fact she had to even see those words in the same sentence. her vision became blurry as tears welled up and started to spill out of her eyes but the words were still visible. her heart ached. she felt empty. alone.

lydia couldn't hold back tears even longer. she let out a soft sob before many sobs followed after. she couldn't believe this was real. why couldn't her name be written there instead? the person walking along the sidewalk should've been her. the person who was walking home only to be hit by a car should've been her.
on the 30th of june, bailey was killed instantly. no pain or suffer was caused, just her life was lost. she was the kindest of people. never failed to cheer someone up. why is it always the nicest people to be the ones to die?
"why'd you have to go so soon?" lydia croaked out to the tombstone, tucking a piece of her dark brown hair behind her hair. "you never got to travel the world. you never got the chance to graduate college. you never got the chance to say goodbye."
"oh come on, lyd! you need to start living life to the fullest!" the freckled faced, ginger haired girl expressed. "you have to promise me that you'll at least try and take more risks. you never know what happens tomorrow, so you might as well live today as if it were your last!"
lydia smiled at the girl before rolling her eyes playfully. "okay, okay. i promise, weirdo. now stop being so cheesy idiot."
lydia smiled softly at the memory before letting out a sigh. that's it. she lost the one person who kept her going. but, she made a promise and she is going to keep it.
today marks the day that lydia summers is going to live life to the fullest and live today as if it were the last. because that's what bailey wanted.
