Dr. Castro has me lay down on the examination table, the waxy paper crinkling under me. He checks my vitals once again, and when everything is good he walks us to another room. This room is painted a soothing cream color, and in the middle of the room is a bed surrounded by different medical equipment.
"Alright June, go ahead and lay down on the bed and get comfortable. Augustus, you can pull up a chair next to the bed if you want," Dr. Castro says.
I lay down and pull the covers up to my waist. Augustus sits next to me and says," Now, don't look at me if your hand is in a bowl of warm water when you wake up."
I grin at him and shove him playfully. Dr. Castro hooks up the monitors and begins placing electrodes on my head in various places. "Ok June. I'm going to start by injecting you with a serum. This serum contains micro-bots that will replicate your brain waves and then transmit the information to my computers. I should then be able to see your dreams on here," he says, motioning to a large monitor mounted on the wall.
Dr. Castro takes out a syringe filled with a bright blue liquid. He wipes the crook of my arm with a disinfectant and prepares the needle. He takes my arm and I look at Augustus. He takes my hand in his, a calming gesture. Needles don't bug me, only the thought of something foreign being injected into my blood does, which is why I never watch.
I feel a sharp pinch in my arm and wince. Youch that actually hurt. "I know, stings doesn't it?" Dr. Castro says,"Now there is also something in the serum that will help relax your muscles and calm you, but you need to fall asleep naturally in order for all this to work properly. Which is why I need you to leave Augustus: sorry, but you're a distraction."
"Alright. See you in the morning Junie-poo," He says as he gets up and exits the room. My hand feels cold now so I stick it under the blankets.
I sigh as the serum begins to work. I feel myself relax and boy does it feel NICE. I take deep breaths and clear my mind, welcoming sleep.
In, out. In, out. The whoosh whoosh sound of the fan above. In, out. In, out. Whoosh, Woosh. In..... out. In............ Out. Whoosh...........woo........
