Dr. Castro stared down at June, who fell asleep a lot faster than he had expected. He checked the monitors just to make sure she really was asleep. Yep, she was.
He walked over to the door and let Augustus back into the room. "She asleep?" He asked, glancing in her direction. Dr. C nodded and checked the position of his micro-bots. They're almost in place. What he didn't mention to June is that they PROVOKED her nightmares.
Well, he shouldn't quite say nightmares. More like memories. If they were memories. He hoped not. If they were nightmares, June shouldn't dream at all tonight.
"So, I heard they gave you the promotion, congrats by the way," Dr. C said, trying to start a conversation. He knew it was hard for Augustus to do this to June.
"Yah, I'm real excited. I'm under a lot of extra stress lately though, and the hours are much longer. It's hard keeping things a secret from June, but I know it's for the best."
"Oh, yah I'm sure. She can't possibly understand how big of a deal this really is for you. How is Carly?"
Augustus sighs,"It's also hard not to act attracted to Carly when I'm around June."
"I still don't understand why you have to keep THAT a secret, anyways." Dr. Castro said, looking up from his computer.
"It's... Complicated. Carly wanted to keep it a secret so she could develop a better bond with June. Even the commander thought it would be less complicated and better this way," Augustus replied.
"The micro-bots are ready to go. We can start whenever. How long until Carly is here?"
"She should be here," Augustus stopped mid-sentence as the door opened,"Now."
Carly walked into the room and stopped abruptly to give Augustus a kiss. "Nice briefs this morning."
"It's not like you've never seen them before," Augustus replied, making her blush.
"Enough you too. I realize your 'in love' but we have more important things to tend to. I'm activating the bots in three, two, one... Here we go," Dr. Castro said.
Augustus looked over to June, who was writhing uncontrollably in the bed. He decided to focus his attention to the monitor on the wall that had begun to light up. What he saw brought back horrible memories of his past, and as he turned away from the screen he felt Carly's supporting hand on his shoulder. He reluctantly turned back around to watch the events unfolding on the screen.
