I woke up. I decided that today I should go visit the local hotel after trading my gold for money. I got quite a bit of money for my three bits of gold and decided that I should treat myself with a good meal. I went to the hotel as the pub was too full and the hotel still had food. Once I got there I ordered some spiced beef with cauliflower and sat at a bench. I noticed a calendar and saw that it was the 7th of October. When my food got to me I saw a guy walk in. At first he was politely talking to the owner of the hotel but it soon turned into an argument and the almost started fighting before they were dragged apart. The person who argued with the hotel owner left and I heard someone speaking about the owner afterwards.
"That Scobie guy shouldn't be starting fights with Bentley. Doesn't he know that Bentley is an ex-convict? It's really dangerous to be talking to him like that."
I finished my meal being on edge now that I know the owner Bentley is an ex-convict and got up straight away. I walked over to the serving desk to give my plate back and tell Bentley I enjoyed the meal and once I was done complimenting the meal I walked out of the building. I decided it was time to go back to the house and check on the others so I walked around two kilometres to get back. Once I got there Sally asked me where I was. I told her about the hotel and what happened. After I was done she said that Bentley is a dangerous person and that the Scobie guy should watch his back after arguing with him. After she revised what I already knew I changed the topic to how much money I got from just three gold nuggets and how I think we might actually have a chance of not just getting enough money but we could get rich! I never thought of getting full on rich before now because I was only planning on staying a little while in order to get just enough money to pay the loan sharks but now that I know we could actually have a chance at big riches I'm aiming high!
We decided to go mining again in the same place we went before and that we would stay there until the evening. Once we finished we walked home with our goods. We got around four pounds worth of gold and were pretty happy with ourselves. We went our way home and talked to John about today's events and he was happy for us and also happy for himself as our success would mean that we can keep paying him.
We went to sleep early that night because we deserved it and when we woke up and got ready John came over to us and showed us the local newspaper and we were really surprised.
"I knew something bad was going to happen to Scobie after he argued with Bentley!" I exclaimed.
"Oh poor Scobie." Sally muttered
"Do you think Bentley killed him?" John questioned.
"Probably. He is an ex-convict after all, we wouldn't know for sure but he seems deranged" I replied. "Well it doesn't concern us so let's just go back to mining. We started going to the mining area but a policeman came up to us and told us that mining was not allowed today as there have been riots since Bentley has been let go.
"WHAT!!" We both screeched "He should not be able to be let go! He is a murderer and should be punished."
We instantly ran back to the house and told John about the situation. Then I grabbed my hidden shotgun. That surprised John and Sally but I didn't take notice. We ran to the hotel to see a riot, it was total hell there were beaten bodys everywhere and the fight surrounded the hotel. Even though the police and soldiers had fighting equipment they were outmatched. We found our way into the fight and a soldier tried to start beating Sally. I pumped him full of shotgun rounds and helped Sally up. Then we saw the fire, someone set the hotel ablaze and it was climbing so fast. Within two minutes the hotel was consumed with flames and we where forced to retreat away from the fire. Someone started shouting.
"MINER RIGHTS, WE SHALL FIGHT!"
We took that to heart.
