I wouldn't say my life is dull per say, but I definitely wouldn't say it's very exciting either. I live in the heart of Midnight City, formerly know as New York. At the beginning of the Reconstruction, after the Peacekeepers took over the government, there was country wide blackout. For an entire week there was no one who had any sort of generated power. People who lived in New York at the time said that it was so dark, with most of the buildings towering high, that even at 12 in the afternoon, it still felt like midnight. Most people didn't even leave their homes due to the blackout and the risk of encountering the newly-founded local gang that entitled themselves "The Hopeless Ones"a twisted religious following that took to forcibly spreading their word.
This was about 10 years ago; and things have moderately settled down. The new government is named The Republic of Alliance, but most people just call them the TRA. The majority of people don't seem to know the specifics of what went down when the governments flipped, but from what I've gathered, it seems that there was a huge controversy about whether democracy did us any good at all. With supposedly billions of dollars in debt, the government didn't seem to have a handle on things, so I guess they just decided to cut democracy out. They put a council of peacekeepers, which is what they call government officials, in charge, and basically just had them make all the decisions. Supposedly, they still have things like "public forums" where you can go yell at the peacekeepers and try to tell them what to do, but overall the citizens of this country have no say in what happens in government. Not that any of this bothers me. As long as I can pick up my coffee in the morning at my favorite coffee shop, all is right in the world with me.
My name is Kennedy Cole, and at the the time of the Reconstruction I was 8 years old. I don't know what happened to my parents. When I was 4 years old, they were there; when I was 5, they weren't. I remember waking up one Sunday morning and they weren't anywhere to be found. I cried and screamed for hours until my Aunt Lexi showed up to take me to the zoo. I've lived with her ever since, and today I turn 18.
