Church of Noise// The Bloody Beetroots
Chronicals of a Fallen Love// The Bloody Beetroots
(AKA the only rave music I know, but i think it fits well with this chapter)It was like something out of a movie. You walk through the front doors and your eyes are immediately flooded with flashing lights. The rave music is so loud that half the time you could only hear your own head pound. The main floor was loaded with people, there was definitely more kids than just our school here. Up above there was a balcony that people lingered on, looking below and probably getting some action in the stacks of hay. To the side of the barn looked to be a bar where bottles of alcohol and various mixers sat around, which Maggie and I promptly took off to.
After a few shots Maggie and I ran into the crowd, relatively tipsy at this point, and we began to dance. The music was infectious. Surrounded by strangers and getting lost in the music felt like the biggest stress relief I've ever experienced. With all the lights you didn't know which way you were facing or who was around you. It was a new kind of high. At one point, I kid you not, the guys surrounding me decided it would be a good idea to lift me up and put me on their shoulders. With everyone drunk off their ass you think this would be an awful idea. Up on their shoulders I had a view of the entire barn, I was able to see everything and everyone. I was able to see him.
It was only for a second, but I could have sworn it was real. His face imprinted in my mind, standing by the bar staring at me. Just staring. Our eyes locked for the quickest moment but I swear it felt like forever. Brown hair, square jawline, and those eyes. Just staring.
And that was when all hell broke loose.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Suddenly, I was falling, and people were running every which way. Lying on the ground I swear I might have been kicked in the ribs at least half a dozen times as people tried to get away. After a few moments I managed to lift my self up from the crowd and look around. I tried yelling and looking for Maggie but she was no where in sight. Climbing up on one the hay stacks I tried to get a better look at the crowd to find her, but that was when I saw it.
People dressed in all black had came in and started grabbing people, throwing them around. Someone in the corner of the room had lit a fire, setting some the hay stacks up in flames. That's when it clicked, this was the rebel group Sal had been telling me about. Before I could process anymore of what I was seeing I managed to take an uneven step backwards and fall behind the haystacks, knocking myself out in the process.
When my vision started to clear the first thing I noticed was the lack of music. I'm not sure how long I'd been out but judging from the increase of smoke I would have to guess a little too long. I managed to pick myself up and stumble out of the haystacks. Looking at the front entrance I noticed the part of the balcony had collapsed, blocking the way for me to get out.
The smoke was getting so thick it was starting to get difficult to breathe. As soon as I started coughing I suddenly couldn't stop. Falling on all fours I knew this was the end. I was going to die at 18. I could only hope that Maggie had managed to get out safely, no need for both of us to go down in flames. My eyes started to flutter as my limbs started to get weak. No doubt the alcohol was making my death seem faster than what it normally would be.
And then I was was being pulled up into someone's arms as my savior began to run. My eyes fluttered open to see his face. The face I saw in the crowd was now right in front of me. I still couldn't be sure what I saw was real, but looking up at it I so badly wanted it to be.
He manged to find a window in some corner room that I didn't know existed and broke it without hesitation. He turned to look at me and I noticed his lips were moving, but I had no idea what he was saying. My head was beyond throbbing and it took just about all my energy to keep my eyes open. With one swift motion he brought me up to the window and tossed me out, my body landing on a bed of hay. I think the shock of that might have been bigger if I was a little more coherent. I managed to pick myself up and roll out of the hay as my rescuer followed me out of the window.
He came over, picking me up again, and brought me farther away from the building, gently laying me down in a bed of grass. Using all of the energy I could muster up I managed to croak out 8 words.
"You know, I totally had that under control." I attempted a sarcastic smirk after that but I'm pretty sure I just looked pained.
There was a flash of something in his eyes that I couldn't quite place, followed by a lopsided grin that made my heart throb.
"I bet you did" He replied, pushing back a stand of my hair that was covering my face.
And that was the last thing I remember from my 18th birthday.
