Once the exams were over, we were finally released for our mid term break. I was excited. Normally, I'd spend the break hiding from Gabe and bunking at Alex's house but this time, I'd be going on a trip.
I had managed to save up enough money to go on the trip, using illegal methods. I couldn't cover all the expenses so Alex had paid for everything else. I would have felt guilty for spending her money but it wasn't her money. It was her parents money so I didn't think twice before using it.
We had packed the night before school ended so we would be able to rush straight to the airport after class. Alex drove me and Dexter, and Sebastian drove everyone else to the airport. I sat at the back of the car to let Dexter and Alex have a mini-date.
I daydreamed about the farm; how beautiful the scenery was, how fresh the air was, how cute the animals were. I wondered if we could go star gazing since I heard that the countryside was less bright.
The ride took an hour, with a few stops at patrol stations for food and bathroom breaks. I had a bag of tiny pretzels and snacked on them during the ride. Dexter, who had been blabbering away since the start of the car ride, had fallen asleep, which allowed Alex to drive in peace.
"Hey, turn on the radio," I kicked the back of Alex's seat.
"Just connect your phone to the speakers," she replied. "Don't play it too loudly or you'll wake Dexter up."
"Awww," I grinned,"you care about him!"
"No, I don't. I just want him to be asleep so he doesn't talk my ears off," Alex defended herself but it didn't convince me that she didn't have a soft spot for Dexter.
I wondered how long till they got together as a couple. I shipped them.
"Aren't you connecting your phone?" Alex changed the subject.
I pulled out my phone and quickly turned on my bluetooth before connecting it to the car's speakers. I went through Spotify to find a good song and settled on 'Machine by Imagine Dragons'. I had an obsession with their band but they were a great band with amazing messages in their songs.
The rest of the ride went by quicker as I mouthed along to songs and scrolled through Instagram.
When we finally pulled up to the car park, it was late in the evening. Our flight would leave at eight-thirty at night. After I shook Dexter awake, we got out of the car and stretched our cramped limbs.
"My foot fell asleep," Dexter complained.
"So did Sebastian, probably. Where the fuck are they?" I said, rolling my neck.
"Car accident," Dexter joked.
Alex shook her head,"it's not nice to joke about stuff like that."
I shrugged,"should we call them to ask where they-oh, they're here."
Sebastian's junky car pulled into the car park and reversed into the space beside Alex's car. Once he finished parking, the car's headlights switched off and left us in darkness.
It was a pretty cold night and I wasn't dressed for the cold. The weather forecast said it would be a warm day but apparently nope. I wore a thin black shirt and shorts, along with checkered vans. I hoped Sebastian had his jacket so he could lend it to me again.
Jesse was the first out of the car, groaning as he stumbled out,"you're a shit driver, Sebastian!"
"How did you get your license," grumbled Seth as he got out of the car after Jesse.
Sebastian was the last out, going to drag their bags out of his car booth,"next time you guys can walk."
"Come on guys, we have about an hour to check in," Seth said, picking up his luggage.
