Emra awoke the next morning bright and early. When she looked at her clock, it read 7:15. Emra sat up in bed, rubbing her eyes. She liked mornings, because they were peaceful and she usually helped her dad with the creatures. Emra put her hands up to her hair and pulled the braids out. She was so full and exhausted last night that she felt too lazy to take them out.
She dug down into her trunk for her brush and ran it through her hair, lightly. It was still enough of a brush to make her hair start to frizz up. She looked into the mirror that stood up against the wall and smiled at her bed head. She felt that she didn't really need to worry about bed head, because her hair was already naturally curly; bed head would blend in with the curls. Emra looked at the cushion next to the mirror.
Her uniform lay upon it. She pulled on her skirt and top. Then she sat down on the cushion and pulled on her black stockings and shoes. She looked over at Nellie's bed. Nellie had started to stir under the covers. Emra stood up and left the dorm to wait in the common room. Some of the other Gryffindor's had congregated there; taking up the couches that sat in front of the fire. Emra shrunk into the shadows. She may be a little more outgoing, but she didn't like being around people she barely knew.
Suddenly, someone touched her shoulder. Emra turned and came face to face with a Gryffindor third year boy. He smiled at her "Sorry. Your shoe's untied." he said, pointing down to the floor.
Emra turned pink and bent down quickly to tie her shoe. When she stood back up, she got a clear look at his face. He had blonde hair and blue eyes so light, they appeared grey.
Emra suddenly felt a great burst in her chest and she felt herself turning pink again. Starting to speak, she spluttered "Th-thank you...." she didn't know his name.
The boy smiled and held out his hand "Carson Elliot. It's nice to meet you, Scamander."
Emra took his hand and shook it. His hands were smooth and his touch was gentle. He smiled at her again and walked away; out the portrait hole. Emra was so caught up in watching him walk away with this confidently cool swagger, she completely missed Nellie coming up beside her.
Nellie nudged her "Is Miss Scamander in love?" she stated loudly.
Emra looked down, embarrassedly "Shut it!" she hissed.
Nellie chuckled and pulled Emra towards the portrait hole. The two headed down to the Great Hall. As she was walking down of the staircases, Emra stepped on one of the steps and her foot fell straight through. Emra caught herself on the stair railing and she pulled her foot out of the step. Nellie chuckled at her.
Emra felt her face turned red "What're you laughing, Nellie?" she asked, her voice louder than she meant it.
Nellie stopped laughing, but still having a chuckle in her voice "Nothing Emra! I just thought you would've known about the vanishing stair since you have two siblings who've been at Hogwarts for a few years now."
Emra huffed "I'm sorry that they never have to come up here, Nellie!"
Nellie held up her hands "Okay! Okay! I'm sorry, Emra!"
The two continued down to the Great Hall and walked to their table. When Emra was done eating breakfast, she looked around for Bobbie and Adilyn. When she spotted them, she grabbed Nellie's wrist and pulled her over to them.
"Bobbie! Adilyn!" Emra exclaimed as she ran toward them. They turned around smiled and met up with her.
Adilyn was the first to reach Emra. She squeezed her arms around Emra "Oh, Emra! I do wish that you were there to endure Polly's constant complaining! She was saying that the sorting hat made a mistake with putting Eleanor in Hufflepuff what felt like hours before she went to sleep!"
