Steaming hot water hit my scalp as I sat on the shower floor. This is when it all hits me, that man. I mean yeah he was a grade a asswipe but did he deserve to die?
Yes, think of what he was doing to his daughter? To his wife? They didn't deserve that. Besides if he ever went to court they would have just gave him a slap on the wrist. That's all they ever do..
I signed at myself, I'm proud of what I've become but after it all settles in I can't help but feel ashamed. I look down and the white, plastic tube floor. Reaching up, I flick open my switch blade and start carving into the floor.
When I was finally satisfied I clicked it closed and admired my work. It was my name deeply carved into the plastic, and you could feel it whenever you ran your finger across it. I try to make it my habit to leave a piece of me where we go.
I jolt at a loud bag on the door. "Come on Ash! We're leaving for Oklahoma in two hours and we've all got to shower!"
Missouri, Joplin
Joplin central police station"Gracie any word back about the names?" Spencer said as he got settled at an empty desk the officers had cleared off for him and his teammate .
"Yes actually, they weren't that hard to find really. They seem like such normal kids." This caught Spencer's attention, "kids? You mean the picture is recent?" Gracie stopped and looked up and the young bot genius.
"Is that not what I just inadvertently and non a-pointedly said?" Spencer cracked a smile "so what do you have on them?" "Okay Jordan Cambridge, born and raised in Jasper county. 3.5 GPA graduated high school at age of 18 add ten years to that he's gonna be about 28. Scout Fields, Commerce Oklahoma local all his life, little big of a lower GPA-" "oh low?" Gracie stopped talking and flared at him.
"Sorry," Spencer said pinching his nails in order to not look at the technical annalist "awe, you get so small when confronted. Some girls like that." The young doctors cheeks went red at the comment. "His GPA was about a 2.7, he graduated seven years ago so he should be about 25 years old. Mom said he was a good kid who just wanted to do what's right."
"Twisted mentality he could be thinking he's doing more good then harm." Spencer noted under his breath. "Okay here's the kicker.. Seth and Astrid Clearwater. Bounced around Miami Oklahoma, family members friends you name it, all their young 3-8 year old lives when suddenly their birth parents come into the picture where funny enough, they meet Johnny LaRusso in the Cherokee Reservation where they will stay until they all graduated high school."
"Wait, Gracie did you say reservation? So they're native?" "Yeah, well some of them. Seth Clearwater gets it from his momma and is full blood Cherokee along with Johnny. Astrid is only 43% and has a striking resemblance of her father, some say that she wasn't welcome in the reservation. Scout and Jordan have no trace of native blood."
"Gracie, I want you to go back to the year Seth and Astrid where in senior year til now. See if you can find any unsolved cases that might be connected or show signs of foul play."
"You got it sugar." The screen went black as Reid shot up and walked over to the big map of the state that was pinned to a white board. "They're apart of the Cherokee nation, which is found near Ottawa county, which is one county over from jasper. That's where they all met. If I'm right, which when am I not, there will be earlier killings most likely on the reservation. Wait where were the other bodies found?"
Reid scrambled back over to his desk and flipped threw the file. First body, Emma Link found in Oklahoma City, then another one in LeRoy Kansas, this is the second body in Missouri. "Their working within the tri-states.
RING RING
"What did you find Garcia?" "So get this! The summer of their senior year a Henry White Eagle went missing. The next day his body was found dead on the reservation border. No one really cared to investigate, everyone said he was a no good and his wife tried to charge him with spouse abuse but poor thing nothing was ever done."
You could hear a little bit of Gracies soul break in sadness. "A month later another guy went missing. He was a registered sleazbag but the tribal police didn't really make an effort to make sure he was staying on track. No one even looked for him."
