Skylor screamed on the other side of the line when she heard the news from her future sister-in-law that she was pregnant. Nya pulled the phone away from her ear from the yell, trying not to bust her eardrum.
"Have you told anyone yet?"
"No," Nya hissed. "I'm still struggling to find out how to tell Jay." Telling her husband was kind of iffy at the moment. Nya said she wanted to wait a year whereas the crime rates were expected to go lower. Guess something didn't work; or broke.
"Just tell him. The sooner the better."
"I can't just say it randomly. We weren't planning to have a baby." Nya paced around in her room as the stress got to her. The stress of a kid, explaining this to Jay and everyone else they knew. Spilling the news to Skylor relieved some of the distress she felt on her shoulder. It was so good that someone knew.
"Nya, stop thinking about this too much. He'll understand." Yeah, like that'll be easy. It took forever for Jay to agree to wait on having kids since Nya wasn't comfortable. Of course the auburn headed boy understood why, he just had a hard time accepting it. Later on, he was in terms of the circumstances and decided to wait patiently while marking down the days until a year.
It was only a month in.
"And I can't just abort the baby."
"Why not? You're not ready to have a kid."
"I will feel like a murderer. Besides, how heartbroken would Jay be if I said I killed a baby he never knew about in the first place. It's his kid too." It takes two to make the kid. Yet, the father didn't know that he had a child. Nya was all over the place that she didn't know how he would react. Happy for the baby? Sad because Nya wasn't ready? Mad she didn't tell him first? Confused? Frustrated? Stressed like her? It was all so confusing for everyone.
"Then talk this over. Whether you want an abortion or not. The only stress I'm hearing about is telling Jay. Not even your brother or parents. You'll only feel better if you broke the ice with your husband. You guys are still in your teens with Jay turning twenty next month, and you next year, you both have time to make another kid." If you're wondering, yes, Jay wanted a baby right after they got married which was two months ago.
Their lives were always on the line, the thought of Jay not proposing until something happened scared him. He had to do something about it. Dying whilst knowing he married the love of his life was the final check of his bucket list. Having a baby before he died was a bonus that didn't have to be checked off, but it would be nice to.
"You're right."
"I always am. My shift's over in a few hours. I'll come by."
"Bye." Nya threw her phone on her bed, climbing in right after. Wrapping a blanket over her shoulders, she got her laptop, and started searching results of 'how to tell your husband that you're pregnant'. Most responses were for people who cheated on their husbands. She didn't cheat, not-at-all. The water ninja knew it was his. She sighed and left the page to work on some blueprints on her BorgPad. Five minutes in and someone was knocking on the door. "Who is it?"
"Your favourite person in the world," he singsong.
"You don't sound like Ryan Reynolds," she joked. A sarcastic laugh followed by the other person on the opposite side of the door. Jay let himself in, closing the door slowly behind him.
"Watcha' doing?" He asked, peeking at her pad. Nya blinked, not once, not twice, but three times to realize she was drawing a crib over the bounty upgrades. She flipped her pad immediately so he didn't see. The lightning ninja raised an eyebrow at her curiously before flopping down on her bed comfortably, stretched out with his limbs wide apart. "Sensei has been tough recently, my everything is sore. How come you didn't show up?"
"Tired. Gonna come for night training though." Wu kind of sensed the reason why and let Nya off for stretching and was going to do light training without sparring. The master of lightning had a small vibe come towards him that his yang was distraught.
"A penny for your thoughts." This is something the couple did whenever they felt that the other wasn't doing well, or had something on their mind. Nya decided it was time to come clean. With a deep breath she muttered out her next words.
"I love children."
Jay was confused since he already knew that piece for knowledge. What a waste of a penny. "Okay?"
"Especially when I have them." Jay looked at her with wide eyes, realizing what she said, and what she meant.
"W H A T." Jay kind of, sort of, fainted. Since he was already on the bed, he closed his eyes and laid there. His wife got worried and started shaking him a bit, he slowly sat up with a stirred look on his face. "We- We're having a kid?" He asked dazed.
"Mmhm," she nodded, tears slowly formed in her eyes, the information actually setting in with her. With one hand he caressed her cheek tenderly, pulling her closer to put their heads together. With tears of joy, they cried together silently before Jay pulled her in for a sweet kiss that was a bit salty due to the tears they forgot to wipe off.
"I thought you wanted to wait."
"Fate had other plans." Skylor was right, he did understand, in fact he didn't care that he wasn't told before, having a baby was all he cared about.
