Enjoy Chapter Seven
"Awh you win," I pout dramatically at Jake as he grins happily. This is the third time in a row he has beaten me at Monoply. "Cold," he murmurs softly, we're both huddled up on the living room floor, wrapped in about three different quilt covers but they do nothing to stop the cold air from making us shiver. "Does your dad leave you at home by yourself a lot?" I ask, curious to find out more about Dexter Grey's parenting. Jake shakes his head, "He never leaves me here alone," I smile, some girls would be freaked out by the fact Dex had a kid when he was fourteen or whatever but it only makes me like him more. He's a great dad. "He's sad because of mummy," Jake whispers, looking out the window at the sinking sun. "What happened to her?" I ask softly, unable to contain my curiosity. "Daddy never told me," his eyes are so sad and desolate I almost feel like crying. "Are you hungry?" I blurt out, trying to distract him from his sad thoughts, he nods, a silent yes. I don't even think there's any food. Sleepily standing up off the floor and heading into the massive kitchen. Marble counters, mahogany dining table. How could they afford this mansion? "SHIT!" I scream when a hand touches my arm and I leap about four foot in the air, little Jake whimpers and starts backing away from me with wide eyes. "Sorry Jake," I whisper soothingly, "you just scared me." his back hits the wall and he just stands there, pressed firmly against it. Staring at me with those wide golden eyes. I reach for him and he flinches but doesn't move away. "Don't be scared," I smile reassuringly and he relaxes, stepping forward until he's practically wrapped around my leg. Is it because I shouted that he got so scared? Does Dexter shout at him? I shake my head to clear my thoughts and tuck a loose strand of my dull chestnut hair behind my ear. "Lets hunt for some food," he smiles up at me as I lead the way to the fridge and pull it open. Watermelon. Cheese. Wow. Gorgeous house but completely devoid of food. Jake stays pressed against my side as I walk around the kitchen, methodically opening each cupboard as I pass it. Nope, no luck. This place is officially empty. Cheese? "Do you like cheese?" I raise an eyebrow at the one tiny block of cheese on a plate smack bang in the middle of the fridge. Jake grins and nods enthusiastically. Well that explains the one tiny block of cheese Dexter decided to keep. Sighing at my empty stomach I pluck out a block of Seriously Strong cheese and start slicing it into slices. "Do you want to take it upstairs to bed where you can get nice and warm? Its too dark for boardgames." He nods again and takes my hand. I lead the way upstairs, praying I don't miss a step or fall backwards. The house is engulfed in a seemingly endless pit of darkness. God I wish Dex was here. I practically drag Jake towards Dexter's bedroom, completely terrified at the idea of spending the night in pitch black. Jake whimpers as I shut the bedroom door, "I don't like the dark either Jake," I whisper with a humourless chuckle. I place the plate in the middle of the bed and slide under the silky bed covers with Jake still clinging onto my hand. "When will daddy be home?" he whispers, putting a slice of cheese in his mouth. I don't even know what time it is now. "Soon Jake, he wont leave us here in the dark for long." He smiles and shuffles closer so that his head is resting on my shoulder. As he eats his cheese I try and distract myself from how cold it is. Which doesn't work because it actually feels as if icicles are forming on my nose. Jake finishes his cheese and I reulctantly reach around in the wall of darkness surrounding the bed, looking for somewhere to put the plate. Finally my hand touches something and I let go of the plate, hoping it will land on whatever I touched. Nope. The sound of the plate shattering against the floor fills the room and I whimper along with Jake, both of us desperately trying to drag ourselves beneath the covers. Dexter where are you?
------ Dexter -----
"Mm," I mumble against the girl's neck as another girl grinds herself against me from behind. "Dex you manwhore," Tom chuckles from the other side of the living room, sitting on the couch downing beer after beer. I wink at another girl and she swiftly comes to join in the fun, Brody snorts from the other side of the room, but then gets distracted by a pretty red haired girl that wraps him into a drunken hug. Someones tongue begins to make its way down my neck and I shiver at the uncomfortable warmth. This is wrong. I sit up off the coffee table, unconciously pushing a girl off my lap that I didn't even realise was there. "Don't go," Fiona, a dark haired girl with ocean blue eyes whispers, attempting to be seductive. I reply with an uncaring grunt and stand up. Holy shit. The room spins and everything goes hazy as I start falling sideways. The room steadies itself and I sway my way through the throng of sweaty drunk teenagers towards Brody. Wait, where did my shirt go? I glance down at my bare chest, slightly annoyed at my muscular chest which is out for the whole world to see and admire. A sweaty guy with short black hair collapses into me, sending us both to the floor. "Hmm," he murmurs sleepily, placing his head on my chest and closing his dark eyes. "Hey, when I die and come back as a nice fluffly pillow i'll let you know," his eyes flash open questioningly as I raise my fist and bring it crashing down on his cheek. He falls backwards, dragging me with him. I stand up as he lies there, hissing in pain. The room spins again and this time I feel myself falling, back down towards the prick that tried to go to sleep on me. Strong hands grip my shoulders, pulling me towards them. Brody. His glittering green eyes stare down at me as he practically carries me out the room. "Think I'm gonna be sick," I mutter in a raspy voice that I barely even recognise. He nods as if I had asked a question and pushes a door open. Bathroom. A young couple gingerly pull away from their embrace and rush out, faces red with embarrassment. Brody supports me as I lean over the toilet and immediately start vomiting. "Man you make me sick," he chuckles jokily, my legs go all weak and wobbly but he keeps me upright. I finally finish vomiting and stumble away from the reeking toilet. Clock. I gaze up at the clock, searching for the short hand. "Oh god," I whisper horrified. Brody's face comes back into view as I sink to the floor. "bro?" his eyebrows crease with concern,
"Jake." I sob helplessly, "He's all alone in a pitch black freezing cold house," the last thing I see is my best friend's worried face as he tries to soothe me. The room darkens and I fall towards the hard, tiled floor. Unable to stop myself. Where's my boy?
