The walk to school took longer than I and Lorenzo had expected

The walk to school took longer than I and Lorenzo had expected. Even though both of us had woken up way too early and left before Jack could stop us, the limp I was walking with and the constant pain that kept on flashing throughout my body had slowed our pace.

I told Lorenzo to leave and that I'd manage to make my way to the school on my own, but he refused, saying that he didn't want to leave a girl to walk alone through the deserted alleyways. I didn't argue, simply because I wasn't in the mood to get kidnapped and killed by a serial killer.

At least not today.

The courtyard itself was crowded with tons of students — of all ages — by the time I and Lorenzo arrived at school. Some of them were in groups, talking and laughing together while others were walking on their own as if getting prepared to what they'd face through the day.

A nervous sigh left my lips as my hands began to fiddle with my hoodie's string. It felt as though I had just gotten my consciousness back and realised that I wouldn't be able to fit in with those people. I rubbed my forehead with my free hand as my eyes continued to cautiously scan the crowded courtyard.

"Are any of the bruises visible?" I asked Lorenzo who seemed to be as nervous as I was. He averted his gaze to my face and scanned it before he shook his head.

"Mine?" He asked. I repeated his actions — by scanning his face — and shook my head. I had used some of my mother's old make-up to cover up the bruises and scars that rested on both my face and Lorenzo's. I had done a pretty good job, perhaps.

"Shall we go?" I awkwardly questioned, attempting to distract my thoughts from the nervousness that had started to bubble up within my chest.

"We better do," muttered Lorenzo.

People's chatters and whispers rang through the air; their loud noises a contrast to the eerie silence that used to hang upon the hallways of our old school
