Agonised screams pierced through the eerie silence, startling me from my dark thoughts. An involuntary shiver crawled down my spine as the silence once again invaded my small cell space. "What's going on out there?" I muttered quietly to the empty space before me.
"That my dear, would be your chance at freedom." A smug voice whispered cheerily into my ear.
I tilted my head to the side slightly, freedom? Surely something that caused such pained screams would not be here to save me. Kill me would be the more likely option.
As if reading my thoughts I felt a swift pain to the back of my head. "You dare doubt me? Since when have I turned you wrong?" The voice hissed vehemently. I almost felt guilty... Almost, as the feeling was quickly pushed aside with a slight raise of my brow. "People shouldn't trust the voices in their head I'm told, that indeed will be further gambling my chances away," I smirked mockingly "and we wouldn't want that, would we?"
The voice sighed tiredly from what seemed to be a further distance away before coming closer to whisper in my ears once more, "Your possible death could be just outside that very door and yet you still find the time to make my life misery?" The corner of my lips tugged up slightly before relaxing back into a tired smirk. "So it is death that I am awaiting eh? Not exactly what I'd call freedom."
There was a final sigh before what sounded like a small chuckle escaped their lips. Staring questioningly at the space ahead I soon became aware of the two pairs of footsteps accompanied by muffled voices approaching my cell and by instinct I became rigid, desperately trying to cling to my composure. Another chuckle came from beside me followed by a few pats on the head, a kiss to the forehead and a whispered, "Good luck sweetheart." as I felt its presence slowly fade away.
"Wait!" I called out to the retreating presence. "You will find me once I have left this place." I stated calmly, making more of a command than a request. "Hmm?" The voice replied as it came back towards my side. "And what makes you think I would possibly want to do that eh?" I grinned mischievously, listening out for the footsteps that had stopped just by my door. "Because," I whispered lowly "how could you resist?"
As the words left my mouth the door opened slightly, making my eyes water as they adjusted to the harsh light, a figure silhouetted in the doorway. My mask, along with my smirk settled into place as I called out to the figure.
"Took you long enough!"
