The writing style is partially inspired by The Victory Series by Ewfte on AO3. I tried something new, and my style changes everyday.
Again, thank you to @MalleusDraconia1 for the idea!
Todoroki Shouto dies with fire in one palm, and ice in the other.
He doesn't really remember how it happened and he thinks that maybe that's a good thing. Remembering how he died is sure to add to the already large amount of trauma he has.
Todoroki regrets that he wasn't able to do more in his life. He never went on a family picnic with Fuyumi, Natsuo, and his mother, he never got to flip his father off or get him arrested. Honestly, he felt pretty robbed of a lot of good things that could've happened.
He has a second chance now, but it's not the second chance he wants. He wants to be able to say goodbye to family, to thank Aizawa sensei for helping him when he needed it, to call Midoriya nosy, but also to hug him and thank him.
Todoroki knows that now, as he lays in his crib and watches his mother tend to her bruises and hide weapons, as his father cowers in fear within their house and refuses to leave, that life will never be easy for him, and this second chance is nothing more than a burden.
He thinks that he should've stayed dead when he sees the other villagers burn down their garden again. He thinks that it would be better in the afterlife when he watches his mother get stoned to death. He knows that there is nothing he can do to help himself when his father drowns himself in the river.
Todoroki Shouto dies with fire in one hand, and ice in the other.
Uchiha Itsuki is born with fire in his lungs, ice in both hands, and memories of who he once was.
Todoroki Rei disappeared when he was 5, Yuki Aoi died when he was 3.
Todoroki Enji is full of pride, he grins with too many teeth and is feared by many, his family members included. Uchiha Koshinuke is agoraphobic, he smiles only at a select few books and fears everything, his family members included.
Todoroki Shouto had two– three, a traitorous voice whispers– siblings.
Uchiha Itsuki is an only child born out of wedlock and shunned by everyone around him.
A genius, a monster, a waste of space.
Shouto, now Itsuki, hates life just as much as he did before going to Yuuei. He trains and he trains until he can't feel the tips of his fingers. He doesn't cry, because there's nothing to cry about.
He's born with one red eye. His current father hates his eye. Just as his past mother hated them. His current father is too cowardly to speak up about it though, so Shouto is forced to watch as he hides.
He can manipulate snow, Shouto learns. The next morning is when his father disappears.
They find his body later, after it's been frozen in the lake.
It's always winter where they live.
When he is 4, he realizes that there's a power that runs throughout his body, it helps to fuel his fire and ice. He kills animals and uses one of the only remaining things he has from his past to survive.
Shouto meditates daily, he has nothing better to do anymore. No hero studies, no class, no malls to be dragged to because Ashido needs more hair curlers, or because Iida is out of pencils because he has to keep giving them out.
Kirigakure (which is where he lives) is falling apart. The higher class nobles, all of which are Kirigakure descendants, or have at least allied themselves with them, do nothing.
There are three social groups. "Castes," Shouto remembers from a class he never took. Or did he?
The upper class are direct descendants from Kirigakure. They were taught to fear the ice and water that Itsuki can now control.
The middle class are those who've decided to ally themselves, either to avoid getting killed or to obtain the second highest status.
The lower class is filled with those who've lost battles, those with the same "powers" Shouto has, and slaves. They aren't called slaves here though. They're called ninja. Shinobi.
Shouto knows of Shinobi, and knows that things are not as they should be. 80% of the lower class is Shinobi, but none are older than the age of 25. They're sent suicide missions masked as aiding the village.
Shouto takes one look at the body carrying scrolls that come back from those missions (though sometimes nothing comes back at all) and decides that he wants no part of it.
So he runs.
He runs and doesn't look back.
Again, not sure when the next chapter will be out. I've got a lot of WIPs right now and I'm really trying to write them evenly.
