If I believe that it hasn't been 6 months since the last update, then it's true, right?
Shouto gets to class early like he usually does. It's a difficult habit to break, but it's not a bad one.
His classmates gradually enter the class and sit in their unassigned-assigned seats. The teacher is running a bit late but she usually is.
When she finally gets to class, she's out of breath. "Sorry I'm late." She smiles warmly at everyone except for the 2 Uchiha in the classroom. Neither bat an eye, at this point they're used to the treatment.
"We'll be having a special guest in class today." She says excitedly.
The door slides open to reveal a man with a cane and a bandage covering his right eye.
The man briefly locks eyes with Shouto and Shouto finds himself frozen in place. The moment is gone as soon as it comes and Shouto finds himself wondering if it even happened at all.
"Councilman Danzo." Shouto's teacher says respectfully.
This man is a Village Elder, Shouto realizes. He remembers them from some books he read just a few days ago.
He looks exactly how a Village Elder is supposed to look. Councilman Danzo reminds Shouto of the Hokage, but it remains to be seen if that's a good thing.
"Hello, children." Councilman Danzo says warmly.
Something about the man sets Shouto's instincts on edge. Something distinctly wrong with the man.
Shouto ignores it, chalking it up to paranoia.
(He knows it's not paranoia)
The Councilman looks at the students while Shouto pretends he isn't watching him right back.
Is it just his eyes or do the Councilman's eyes seem to linger on the clan children?
Shouto elects to stay quiet while the man addresses their class. Many of his classmates seem awed at the fact that they're meeting a Village Elder.
Councilman Danzo speaks a lot about nothing. He regurgitates the things that have been said to them before in a way that probably sounds awe inspiring to the young Shinobi-hopefuls of the future, but to Shouto, it sounds like a lot of nonsense.
The Will of Fire, he says.
There will always be a place for you in the village, he reassures them.
Shouto has seen the sneers, has felt the eyes on his back, has heard the way civilians whisper behind their backs.
"They've gone mad, I'm telling you."
"The power got to their heads."
"It would be better if they left, better still if they died."
Shouto's lived twice. His family life has been rocky in both lives, but at least now, he's aware enough to understand that every move he makes will have an impact.
He doesn't know the exact details of the politics behind the Uchiha and the rest of the village, but as he looks at the clan children sitting in his class, each of them stare at him with thinly veiled envy or flat out hatred, he thinks that maybe he can fix it.
He does not want another child to grow up with the expectations and hopes of adults thrusted upon their shoulders.
He's young, yes, but he has enough skill to make up for where he lacks in experience in this world.
Shouto looks at Councilman Danzo, who's staring directly at him and does something he hasn't done in a while.
He smiles.
Revenge is a dish best served cold, and Shouto has more than enough ice to go around.
Kinda corny but I like it anyway.
