Yoongi

Every morning, I take the same route to school, push through my classes, and take the same route back home. When I think of my life like this, it feels like a complete bore; uneventful and repetitive.

Yet, there actually was one highlight to my daily routine. Every morning I arrived to class fifteen minutes early to review notes from the day before....or at least, that's what I pretended to do. I always spent the first five minutes of my free time preparing my notes and books to appear as if I am studying. But really....I was waiting for "Him".

Yoongi sat in the desk in front of me, and he always arrived five minutes after me. He claimed to be studying too; yet he always ended up turning around to talk with me.

This morning was a little different. I decided to listen to music on the bus ride to school and my "romance" track list kicked in. My heart filled with the bliss of seeing Yoongi again today that I forgot to remove my airpods when I arrived on campus. I sat at my desk quietly singing along to Monsta X's song Someone's Someone. Entranced, I hadn't noticed Yoongi entering the classroom and siting down.

If I had looked up at that moment, his shy smile would have brightened my day instantly, while freezing with embarrassment at the same time.

Instead, he jumped right in, singing along, just loud enough for me to hear his voice over the music. Stunned, I look up, taking out one airpod. Surprised with myself, I smile and keep singing. We harmonize for the first time, making my heart beat faster than it has ever since we first met. I see Yoongi's cheeks flush slightly as he smiles at me. Before we could talk more, the bell rings, and we realize we're in a classroom full of applauding classmates, cheering for us to sing again.

After school, Yoongi heads to the band room for his club meeting and I head to the library for foreign language club. I was studying Korean since it was Yoongi's native language. I wanted to surprise him, and write him a love letter in Korean. I knew it would be a long time before I could write a letter in Korean, but I wanted to make the effort. I wanted to do it for him.

Plus, I was constantly practicing and reviewing; on the bus and before school started, before he arrived to class.

After club, I headed for the bus stop. It was so late. I was sure Yoongi had already left.

Just outside the campus gate, I felt drops of rain hit my head. I started to panic. I had forgotten my umbrella and my bag wasn't waterproof. I start to run for the crosswalk. I needed to get to the bus stop as quickly as possible.

But I got stuck at the light with the rain pouring down. I clutch my bag anxiously to protect it from the rain. I close my eyes, praying for the rain to stop.

I open my eyes suddenly, realizing the rain had actually stopped falling on me. Had my prayer really been heard? I look up to find a black umbrella hoovering over me, protecting me form the rain.

Shocked, I swivel my head around to see whose hand was holding the umbrella.

"Yoongi!?! What are you doing here??" I could feel my face burning with embarrassment. I try to bury my face in my bag. His gummy smile managed to lift my spirits.

"Saving you." he chuckles and points toward the street. "Shall we?" We cross in silence. I'm not sure what to say. I'm just so happy.

We get to the bus stop. Under the covering, Yoongi closes his umbrella and sits on the bench next to me. I don't know why, but I'm feeling nervous next to him, alone. I glance at him. Strangely, his leg is shaking.

"I'm sorry. Are you cold? You don't have to wait with me, I'll be fine." Taken aback, he shakes his head. Hesitantly, he pulls out a piece of paper from his bag and hands it to me. I'm shocked by what I see.

"I know this is yours. You dropped it a few weeks back. I wasn't sure on how to return it to you." He stops talking for a minute. This is my practice love letter I was working on and lost. He found it. Now he knows how I feel but I don't know how he feels.

"Yoongi...I..." I don't know what to say.

"I feel the same way....and I wrote you a song." He's looking down at his feet, shuffling in his seat a little. "Actually, my friend Max and I wrote it together. It's called Blueberry Eyes. We're going to sing it at the Spring Festival next month. Will you come and watch us?" He stops abruptly, waiting for my reply.

I could barely contain my excitement. A huge smile reaches across my face.

"Front and center! I promise!"

I just love him.
