Last time on Revolution Machine: The party finally busted into the Planeptune Basilicom, hastily making their way to the top to face Iris Heart! But after Tech and Neptune get swept up into a cage, all that's left to face Iris Heart is Average? Rock on, Mr. Bassist!
"Oh, I'll sing for you all right."
"Ooooh, that sounded kinda cool, don' y'think Nep?" Tech snickered. Neptune was rather busy having a panic attack, though, rattling at the bars of the cage as Tech pulled out some tools. The least he could do is -try- to bust out of this cage. To say he expected this turn of events would be a blatant lie. Who uses cages these days?! Technology allows for things like electro stasis, temporal time shifters and even toasters! Who uses cages anymore? That's so medieval RPG! As he sifted through his toolbelt, he couldn't help but overhear the conversation between Iris Heart and Average, though Neptune's screeching and rattling of the cage didn't help much...
"I must say, I'm hurt, Avy. All I wanted was for you to come home to me... Where you belong. And look! My sweet little songbird has come flying right back to where he belongs. As soon as I handle these pests, we can pick up where we left off when Neppy stole you away from me the first time~! Doesn't that sound... Delectable?" Iris Heart's voice oozed enough venom that even Tech cringed. He didn't know the whole story. He didn't want to, but he certainly was rooting for Average a lot more now. He pulled out some a wrench, cursing himself for letting his gun get out of his hands. Neptune's sudden uproar pulled him from the conversation
"TECH! Can't you use magic?! Just blow a hole in this thing!" Neptune cried, but Tech sighed.
"If it were that simple, we'd awready have Iris Heart hangin' by her toenails! I can't use m'magic without my gun, it's my focus!"
"Your what?""I can't use magic without something to use it through. Think like how you can't use your weapon combos without a weapon! I'm not that magically-savvy! Now get outta my hair so I can focus on bustin' us out!"
"Can't you use something other than your gun? You gotta try!" Tech thought for a moment, looking down to Average and Iris Heart, who still seemed to be talking. Tech narrowed his eyes, looking at how Average held his guitar. He used an instrument to focus his magic, so maybe something other than his gun...
"...Pass me my wrench." Tech then went to work on the cage bars, zoning back into the conversation below.
"I don't know how many times I need to tell you, Iris Heart. You don't own me. I was here in the first place because I wanted to be... And now look at how we've wound up. Do... do you really not care about my thoughts on this? I..."
"Save the pity party for after you're groveling at my feet, my sweet songbird. Don't you get it?" Iris Heart pointed up to the cage Tech and Neptune were in, a smug grin on her face. Average's face went dark, and Tech felt a shiver go down his spine.
"I've got your two friends where you should be. Maybe if you take their place, they won't be hurt too bad? Now, I know how you feel about Neppy... Though, the Machinist might not be of use--" Tech slammed his wrench against the cage, a bit of fire magic into the swing. The cage's bar seemed to bend a bit. They had a breakthrough!
"OY! I have a name, y'devilish cu--" Tech was cut off by an electric current shooting through the cage. Tech only grunted, but Neptune cried out in pain. Tech dropped his wrench, going over to the now trembling Neptune. Iris Heart's laugh echoed through the room. Tech looked out of the cage, just to see Average trembling... but not in the fearful way. There was something else... What was the word?
"Thieves shouldn't speak when they're captured. You're lucky I didn't kill you the first time we met, Machinist. You still have use to me... Neppy, however..." That was when Average's silence was broken, but not by words. Not by those pent up emotions Tech knew he had. That resentment, that rage... It didn't come out through his voice. Though, he can say that mighty strum of his guitar did just enough to convey a portion. The blast of the sound was enough to rattle the cage, and it even seemed to spook Iris Heart. The glare on Average's face was enough to kill, and his hands were still trembling.
"Don't you dare lay a hand on her, Iris Heart."
