Poem Four

she was carved
from a mahogany guitar
body a sea of waves
sloping
curving
shaping such a gorgeous
woman.
strings are plucked
when words sing out her mouth
dripping soft
into late summer air
strumming
to the music of my lovesick heart.
her skin
is made from cocoa beans
dark
like chocolate
like the sun was born
inside her
and stars fall out her eyes
glisten from their deep depths
as if her irises
were plucked from the night sky.
she is a drug
heavy on your heart
branding your mind
until falling asleep
means meeting her in your dreams
and she is the one
waking you from them;
always there
like the last chords
hummed from a mahogany guitar.
