I woke up from my deep sleep to the yell of my name.
"HEY, KATURA, GET OUT OF BED ALREADY!"
Great, because I love waking up to the horrendous screech of my mother every morning. I sighed as I reluctantly got out of bed and walked into the bathroom. In the mirror I saw an extremely average looking girl. She had curly black her that was right above her shoulders, light hazel eyes, and chocolate brown skin with black marks all down her legs and arms. Growing up I was a very clumsy child. Always falling and running into things. Last summer I ran into a mosquito incident that left so many marks I had to see a dermatologist.
I always have to remind myself that this girl in the mirror was me. At one point I had considered myself cute, but all that confidence was sucked out of me after my cousin was hospitalized.
She was my confidence...
In the distance I can hear my mom yelling at me to hurry up. What was she suppose to expect? For me to jump out of bed and rush to go to school with a big smile on my face? I am the type of girl who could stay inside everyday and be fine. All I needed was food and a computer and I was okay.
I glared at my door as I heard footsteps approaching. If that was her I was going to be pissed. To my surprise, my younger brother Kai walked in instead. He had dark brown hair that was past his shoulders in braids. He had dark brown skin like me but his was flawless. My brother was perfectly not perfect, because he has perfect grades, extremely hand some to the outside world but strongly opinionated and annoying at home. I haven't even seen him get a single zit on his face before. He had all of the girls in the seventh grade drooling over him. Whenever I went to his school there were always about nine different girls starring at him. He got good grades and had a smile that was mischievous that made you think he was constantly after/doing something. But his eyes were innocent. His dark brown orbs can make any one fall under his spell. Perfection illuminated off of him.
I envied all of that.
"Mom wants you downstairs, " he stated.
"Well tell her I'm changing and that I will be down in a sec," I nastily responded. He shrugged and simply left my room. I quickly changed into a pair of long jeans and a solid blue T-shirt and slowly went downstairs. I walked into the kitchen to see my brother eating cereal and my mom still in her pajamas by the counter.
My mom was the definition of high class. She was a famous fashion designer so she always had to look good. Except at home...But she controlled most aspects of my life and is hard to be around.
She wants me to hurry up but she can't even get dressed quickly herself. And she blames her kids for being the reason she gets into work late constantly.
I stretch my arm up to grab the cereal box off the refrigerator and sat opposite of Kai at the dinner table. I look to my right at the empty seat. That is where my dad would sit if he were here with us. Currently he was in New York working on this big project for his art gallery. My dad was a famous artist and world wide art collector so he's constantly away. He was probably the second person I could rely on other than my cousin. We were both calm people, as in, we both are good at not expressing our anger. Inside we could be ready to let loose all hell, but we appear completely in control on the outside. He calls it the "dissolving awesomeness method". DAM for short. As every second passes our anger disappears and we're back where we started. There is only one time in my life have I ever gotten really mad. And that was at the person who put my cousin in a comma.
When I finished the last of my cereal I put my bowl in the sink and walked out of the door. I had at least another 15 minutes until my bus came but I needed to get out of that house. My family acts fantastic for the press for the most part but the blemish on this perfect canvas was me. Katura Lemar. I sat at the bus stop and put in my earplugs. I rested my body against a pole and listened to my diverse selection. My music had a wide range. Classical, hip-hop, R&B, K-pop, and a few Japanese vocaloids. Whenever I tell people I listen to some types of Asian music they say things like "Aren't you black?"
I hate our stereotypical society. It just puts people in a box and prevents people from doing things the really want to do.
Eventually the school bus came and as I walked up the steps and entered the jungle filled with the species of hormonal boys and unbelievably slutty girls. I took my seat near the back and propped my feet up on the seat. When we reached the next stop a bunch of kids came up, but one midget walked to my seat and gave me a questioning look.
"What are you doing in my seat?" he asked.
"Excuse me, but what do you mean your seat?" I retorted. As I followed his gaze upward I realized there was a piece of an index paper that said 'Joey D.'
I chuckled and looked back at him. "You got to be kidding me? We don't have assigned seats so I'm not moving."
He shrugged and did the last thing I would expect. He jumped up so he landed right on my lap. His gym bag smashing into my face as he just sat there. In the background I could here his friends cheering him on. I refused to give him the satisfaction of winning this seat. I turned up my volume and just looked out the window.
When 5 minutes passed he looked at me for any signs of relinquishing, but when he saw nothing he crawled out and jumped into another girls seat. I couldn't help but smile to myself.
Victory was mine.
The minute the bus started slowing to a stop, everyone started flooding towards the door.
"You guys really are acting like caged animals," I thought to myself.
I trudged down the pavement and into the school building to find two girls with shinning faces looking back at me. I gave them my best fake smile.
"Abby, Brianna, hey," I said.
Abby has long, straight, black hair that is right above her waist. She was about 5'5 with a tiny build. She had light cream skin and dark brown eyes. She had a big mouth and never missed out on any of the latest gossip.
Brianna was 4'11 with light brown hair. She had freckles on her cheeks and light blue eyes. She was actually really nice, but sometimes she can be really pushy and never seems to listen to other people.
The only reason they're my friends is because my lovely mother found then worthy of our "family's standards".
They ran up to me and clung to me down the hallway. As soon as they let go I bumped it to something before me. I fell on my butt because whatever I hit was strong. I looked in front of me to see it was a guy.
"Kat, you ok?" Abby asked. I absolutely hated that nickname, but what was the point in telling them.
"I'm fine,"I reassured her as I stood up and walked towards the guy in front of me.
"Are you ok? Sorry, I should've been paying more att-" As soon as I saw his face my heart stopped. Suddenly it felt like we were the only ones in the hallway. He had short brown hair, chiseled features, and tan skin. But what really got me was the eyes. They were a light blue with a hint of gray in the center with a delicate shine. Were they contacts, no, they looked to natural. Like gems. I blinked a few times and was transported to reality. He has frowning at me. Why was this angel frowning?
I gave him one of my best smiles ad reached out my hand. He ignored it and walked past me with an annoyed smirk on his face.
My smile immediately fell and my hand dropped to my side. His silence felt like a slap to the face. I swirled around to see him pull over his hoodie and walk away.
"Kat, are you ok? Wasn't he rude?" asked Brianna.
To be honest I wasn't paying attention. I couldn't stop thinking about the way he looked at me. Even though I was confused I could still smell his scent as it flood through my nostrils. It was sweet with a little tang. Somehow the thought of spring came to my mind. My trance was broken as the bell rang.
"Come one Kat, we're going to be late," warned Abby. I let them drag me down the hallway as I kept thinking.
Who was he?
