They'd been driving for an hour or so before a word was said; they were uttered by Dean.

"Mom, I really need to go the bathroom." he muttered from the front seat beside his mother. She glanced over at him, and Sam imagined she was giving him her best 'why-didn't-you-go-before-we-left' look. He sighed and folded one leg over the other, and returned to watching things pass by the window.

Eventually their mother spoke, "We're coming up on a gas station in a minute or so, therefore I suggest if you honestly need to go, you'll have five minutes while I fill up, OK?" her voice was strained and worn.

Dean cracked a wide grin, and sure enough, they could see a gas station rising from the horizon. Pulling up next to a pump, Dean almost immediately jumped out of the door as soon as the car stopped. He bolted across the parking lot and slowed his roll as he approached the doors, still in a hurry.

Sam and his mother watched him with shaking heads and pressed smiles. Mary presumed to swipe her card in the machine after getting out. She glanced around wearily, then proceeded to punching in her pin number.

Sam remained in the car, watching people come and go, lulling around as they waited for their gas tanks to fill. One woman across the way was staring right at him, making him feel very uncomfortable. He offered a grin, but she continued to glare at him, her stink eye penetrating his sense of security. He decided it would be best to get out of the car and join his mother, immediately feeling safer as he did so. Her comfort was unmatchable in every sense, and he breathed out a sigh of anticipation when he spotted his brother meandering out.

Dean was flipping a coin up in the air, and he looked like a bad ass (or was at least trying to) with his father's leather jacket and a pair of aviators perched on his nose. Sam held back a laugh as a car slowly approached his brother from the left as he crossed the parking lot once more - it was the woman who'd been watching Sam. After he'd moved to his mother's side he had no longer felt her gaze and figured she'd gone (he'd been to frightened to look back and make sure). The woman had an evil glare set on her face, along with her own pair of sunglasses. Her hair was a vibrant fire-like orange, and it made her glare even more intimidating.

"DEAN WATCH OUT!!!" Sam cried out to him over the loud music resounding on the concrete from speakers on the corners of the gas station. Dean looked at him quizzically from behind his aviators and was nearly hit by the woman's car when he noticed it and jumped out of the way at the last second. He shot imaginary daggers from his eyes at the back of her car - which was a bright red 1997 Honda Prelude SH. Sam caught the license number and stored it in his head for later accusations.

Dean continued his journey to the rest of his family who was now returning to their seats in the car. He offered his front seat to his little brother, claiming he wanted to relax in the back for a bit. Agreeing, Sam moved to the front and soon they were on their way again.

No one brought up the woman, or Dean's almost mishap. Sam never spoke about the stare he'd gotten from her before she nearly ran over his brother. The car simply drove on in silence, the radio turned down low and the windows rolled down halfway. And they drove on, and on, and on, unsure of where exactly they were headed- both in general destination and in life. Everything leading up to the moment in question had been confusing and rushed. Sam's head spun just thinking about it. Even though he'd had plenty days of rest, he still felt it all to be too much; too much excitement for his liking.

The sky soon grew dark - they'd been driving all day (with the exception of breaks here and there). Still nothing had been said about the first gas station occurrence and no one seemed to mind. It was behind them now, apparently. Sam and Dean had bother frequently asked their mother where exactly they were going, but she'd beat around the bush with her answer, throwing in jokes that would soon toss the conversation of course. It was infuriating.
