"'Cause I'm just a girl, a little ol' me
Well, don't let me out of your sight
Oh, I'm just a girl, all pretty and petite
So don't let me have any rights
Oh, I've had it up to here"

"Remind me again why the school felt the need to host a Halloween ball?" Victoire groaned, adjusting her dress as she waited for Lia to stop hogging the mirror. Katherine sighed heavily, running her fingers through her long, dark hair as she sat down on her bed. It'd been around a week since Headmistress McGonagall had dragged the Potter-Weasley kids into her office and informed them of the threat to their safety.

Lia grunted as her eyeliner smudged slightly. "Because they're idiots?" She suggested, desperately attempting to fix the mistake before it dried. Victoire nodded in agreement, giving up hope that she'd ever get an opportunity to use the mirror and instead grabbing her purse. "Maybe this is my opportunity to get Teddy. I'm still absolutely in love with him," Lia sighed dramatically, straightening up.

Katherine snorted at her words. "Good luck with that. Him and Julie Hawthorne are still together, and it seems like they're serious. Besides, don't you already have a date?" She asked quizzically, rising to her feet as the two blondes made their way to the door.

"Well, yes, but... He's not Teddy, though," Lia groaned as they exited the room. "Adam is perfectly nice, it's just... Well, he's nice. Cute, I guess, but... Not really my type." She explained, brushing a lock of her honey-blonde hair out of her face. "Who are you going with anyways, guys?"

"Mason Wood," Victoire answered distantly. "We're just going as friends, though." She'd known Mason since she was a toddler, on account of her Uncle Harry's close friendship with his father, Oliver. He'd been intent on creating a genetic all-star quidditch team, but had been sorely disappointed by Victoire's serious lack of skill at the sport. Mason, however, hadn't minded her failure to impress his father, and they'd become good friends.

"Perseus Lee," Katherine chimed in, blushing red at her two friends' surprised faces. "We're... kind of dating?"

Victoire gawked at her best friend, shocked at the revelation. "And you didn't think to tell us?!" She squealed, squeezing the brunette's arm, who blushed again in response.

It had been more than two hours, and Victoire was dying of boredom. Katherine had been dancing with her date non-stop since they'd arrived, and Lia was sulking in the corner because her date, whom she hadn't even liked in the first place, had ditched her for Cora Bell. Mason had gone god knows where, and so Victoire was standing awkwardly by the punch table scanning the crowd for someone she could talk to.

The ball was for only fourth-years and above, so that limited her choice of cousins to talk to. Roxanne and Molly were nowhere to be seen though, and she hadn't spotted Fred either. Great.

All of the male students were decked out in dress robes and aggressive amounts of hair gel-- honestly, who needs that much hair gel? It did not look good-- and the girls were in floor-length dresses which had definitely cost way too much. Victoire knew she looked ravishing in her sleeveless sage-green gown with her silvery hair brushing against her bare shoulders, which only made the fact that she didn't have a date even more depressing.

Currently all she was doing was serving as someone to gawk at for the single students-- and some with dates-- and she was growing very bored of it. "Victoire?" a familiar voice came from behind her. "What are you doing?" Teddy asked, stepping around the table and coming to her side.

"Oh, my date ditched me so I figured I'd just stand here and serve as eye candy. You know, the usual," The Ravenclaw said sarcastically, turning to face the currently brown-haired boy. "Why is your hair like that?" She asked, raising an eyebrow at his unusual choice.

Teddy blew a lock of hair out of his face at her words. "Oh, Julie insisted that we match for the ball," He explained, leaning back against the table.

"And where might she be?" The blonde inquired, scanning the crowd for the Hufflepuff's girlfriend. Teddy shook his head, gesturing at the door.

"Her and her friends left to go to some party. They wanted me to come, but I wasn't really in the mood. Not that I'm in the mood for this ball. Is anyone ever really in the mood for this ball?" Teddy rambled, his eyes tracing the floor tiles.

Victoire smirked, grabbing the taller boy's arm. "You're dancing with me now, because my date ditched me before I got the chance. Congratulations," She grinned as she dragged him out onto the dance floor.

Victoire could feel Lia's furious gaze digging into her back as her and Teddy swayed to the music. They'd been dancing for almost half an hour, and at first it had been innocent, friendly, fast-paced dances, but now... Something had changed. A slow song had come on and Victoire'd assumed that Teddy would break away, but instead he'd put his hands on her waist and pulled her closer.

Her chin just barely brushing his shoulder, Victoire could hardly breath as the music soared. They were pressed tightly against each other, and more sets of eyes than just Lia's were on the pair. Victoire could hear the murmurs speculating about them, about the whereabouts of Teddy's girlfriend, but she tuned them out, pressing herself tighter against him.

He was hers right now, if only for this dance, and Victoire didn't know why that made her so goddamn happy.

The walk back to the Ravenclaw common room was awkward and silent, Katherine's face flushed and happy, still clearly overcome with euphoria and excitement from dancing the night away with Percy. Lia, on the other hand, had a stormy expression on her face, her arms crossed tightly across her chest and her glare trained on the ground.

Victoire figured she looked like some combination of the two.

After the slow dance, Julie had rushed in searching for her boyfriend and practically dragged Teddy away, babbling about something 'awesome' happening at the party. He'd shot the blonde a reluctant wave as Julie'd pulled him away, and that was the last she'd seen of him.
