during 2019, a photo of suzie from before her trainee days was leaked, supposedly by an old classmate. normally that wouldn't be an issue, but in the photo, suzie had bruises all one side of her face and a gash on her nose, and she was holding up a peace sign and smiling, seemingly unbothered. the photo caused quite a stir, both with concerned fans and with antis who accused her of being 'a troublemaker'. suzie told everyone on a vlive that she'd simply had a nasty fall while roller blading and that they shouldn't worry, and the controversy fizzled out. the photo is kind of a meme now.

directly after stray kids debuted, and even during the survival show, lots of people began to claim that the only reason suzie was even there in the first place was because of favouritism on chan and jyp's part. this was probably the biggest scandal suzie was a part of, and one of the biggest stray kids in general was a part of. chan was accused of being bias and of bad leadership, and suzie was accused of all sorts of ridiculous things, including blackmail, and even of sleeping with jyp to get her spot. chan came out and said that suzie had earned her place in stray kids just like the rest of the members, and that he treats all his members equally. jyp even made a statement that said suzie had not somehow unfairly got into stray kids. the statement also implied that suzie debuting in stray kids was a publicity stunt, which is also another point of controversy; but with the official statement, the accusations soon died down.

there were a few rumours flying around about suzie being a bully at her old school in australia in late 2018. they turned out to be made up accusations spread by an anti, and didn't amount to anything. however, they resurfaced in early 2021, along with accusations against Hyunjin and multiple other idols. Despite them previously being proven fake, she still got a lot of online hate, and it was a tough time for her, especially since it lead to hyunjin's hiatus.

suzie is well-known for saying strange things, but occasionally she will say something genuinely concerning. she said that once she wasn't allowed to eat for five days after she was weighed and was apparently 'too heavy', and that she got really anxious and upset and even cried afterwards because she was so hungry. jyp is notorious for body-shaming their idols, and fans were furious for a good while after suzie revealed this.
she's also said a few eyebrow-raising things about her life back in australia; she's mentioned being slapped and getting things thrown at her by her parents, and getting beaten up at school. all of this as well as a few other things have lead to some fans believing she had an abusive or at least a difficult childhood.

suzie has been accused of dating her members multiple times, particularly the maknae line. they're usually just rumours spread by shippers or antis that typically never amount to anything, maybe circling around twitter for a few days or so and then fading out. luckily, she hasn't been accused of dating anyone outside of her group.

suzie wore particularly small shorts during a god's menu stage, and an eagle-eyed fan on twitter noticed what looked like marks or scars on the inside of her thighs. while a few dismissed them as just odd lighting or marks from the seams of her shorts, concerned stays began to speculate they were self-harm scars. suzie has said she suffers/has suffered from anxiety and depression before, which only fuelled it. antis started sending suzie all kinds of hateful messages, telling her to cut herself and to go kill herself, all the way into back door promotions.
