Wangari stayed at Wanjiru's house for a week before she was completely healed.
Kahuria had developed some complications because of being rained on.
Wangari was frantic day in and day out.
She would wake up at the crack of dawn and go out into the woods to go look for different herbs.
She would try and pray so hard for each one to work but Kahuria still seemed sicker day in day out.
She slept next to him each night, she did not want to be far away or miss anything.
she would pray all night , lying next to him.
" He will get better. I feel it."
Wanjiru told her." How do you know?"
she asked her.
" I just do."
Wanjiru told her." Im going out to look for some herbs."
Wangari told her and left.
she could feel desperation creep inside of her.
she got deep into the woods and looked herb after herb.
she did not care about the warriors anymore.
she would pass them without uttering a single word.
she tasted each after each and would collect them all just in case they worked.
she collected every plant and leaf that looked like a herb.
it was the middle of the day when she came across a stream.
she put her herbs a side and took some water.
" Ngai taithia dire na hage ha kurora."( Lord help me, I have no where else to look)
she prayed.
her tears were hot on her cheeks.
she had lost her husband.
she could not bare to loose her only son.
she took more sips and started her journey back.
Tears were still rolling down her face as she run back.
she did not care for the rocks she stepped on or the hot sand that burnt her legs .
she just had to get to her son.
she looked at the herbalist as she attended to her son.
she could see how disturbed he was.
" let us see how he is in the morning."
the herbalist said.
She did not sleep that night like many other nights.
in the morning she set out to the woods to look for more.
she was tired and her body was weak.
she passed a group of warriors who tried to talk to her but she could not speak their language as they were luo.
she picked some herbs at a place close to a tree.
" Wangari."
somebody called to her.
she saw a man coming from behind the tree.
" don't you remember me?"
he said." it's me Owino."
he said.she still could not remember him.
" I don't know you."
she said." I helped you that day when you were looking for your husband."
he said.
that sparked her memory.
" oh yeah. Im sorry, I have a lot on my mind."
she said.
she picked some herbs.
" what are you looking for?"
he asked.
" herbs. my child is sick and the herbalist does not know what it is."
she said." what are the symptoms."
he asked.
" he is coughing a lot and has a high fever ."
she told him.
" can you take me to him I think I might try and figure out what it is."
he told her." are you sure you can?"
she asked him.
" I can try."
she figured that she could give him a chance, she was running out of ideas and hope in the herbs she picked.
when they reached the entry of the village she suddenly remembered that Oli was Luo and it would not be easy to let him in.
" wait here."
she told him.she went and got some water and poured it on the ground to make some mud.
" I need to cover your marks."
she told him as she applied it on his traditional marks.
" I don't want to bring attention to the fact that you are luo and a half cast at that."
she said as they got in the village.
she passed by a couple of houses and got to Wanjiru's house.
she found Wanjiru distressed .
" Wangari. Thank God you are here. He has gotten worse in the past hours. I don't know what to do.
the herbalist says that there is no hope left."
she said.
Wangari tears rolled down her cheeks as she looked at her little baby. Maybe she was too late.
