"Ronald do you ever stop eating?" I huffed as Ron swallowed down his fifth slice of toast that morning.
"No" he replied, offended that I would even ask something so ridiculous. He gulped down a glass of pumpkin juice before getting started on his sausages.
"Aren't you lot even a little bit worried about potions? we have it first!" I sighed, and Hermione was quick to back me up.
"Exactly, and to think this is the first term of advanced potions" she stated. "of course I've already memorised most of the course details, but it's extremely difficult."

"Oh trust you Hermione" said Ron, shoving egg into his mouth "Going to make us all look bad with how much you know already."
Hermione smiled and blushed slightly at this. I laughed quietly to myself, "What about you Harry? I thought you'd be panicking the most, you hate your classes with Snape."
Harry looked down at a beat up, old copy of advanced potion making and spoke "I don't know, something's made me feel like i'm gonna do just fine this year" he grinned.

"Well that's not suspicious at all." I said "Come on you guys, don't want to be late as well as unprepared."
The sound of scraping benches against stone and heavy sighs filled the great hall as Gryffindor headed towards the dungeons.

Potions is set in the dampest, darkest room in the entire castle. The course work is hard and the punishment for failure is harder. Professor Snape is by far the cruelest professor in the entire school, and sometimes I think he became a teacher for the the sole purpose of taking out his rage on people less powerful than him. Yet, it's still my favourite class. It means a whole hour, maybe two away from Draco.

My cheery mood was quickly damaged by the sight of a red and yellow wave heading our way. Ravenclaws are tolerable. They help out everyone with school work, their ambition is admirable, and they keep to themselves. Hufflepuffs are some of the best entertainment. They'll take anything you send their way, are too weak to fight back, and quite comedic to watch. But Gryffindors? Insufferable. Trust my luck that Professor Snape had me say next to the worst one.

I noisily took my seat next to Pansy Parkinson, at least I think that's her name, Slytherins tend to avoid interacting with us.
"Hi." I said politely, to which I received a scoff and an eye roll.
"You know you Slytherins are real arses right" I retorted angrily. Pansy looked as though she was going to say something particularly rude before Snape marched into the classroom.

Snape started a boring lecture on our N.E.W.Ts before sending tests flying to desks around the classroom. 'Great.' I thought 'Not even 10 minutes back to school and we're already being assessed'. Thank God Hermione went through that textbook with me.

With 20 minutes left and a completed parchment sheet, I surveyed the room. Many members of the class, including Ron and Goyle, had decided this would be the perfect time for a nap. Hermione was using two extra pieces of parchment to expand on her answers and Harry was busy copying answers from the old textbook on his lap.

Then I noticed Pansy.
She was leaning forward so that her silky black hair hid most of her face, yet I could still make out a tear rolling down her face, to splat on her empty paper.
Guilt washed over me as I whispered "Hey!" before shoving my completed parchment in her direction.
"What?" she hissed back, roughly wiping her face, before she noticed my paper in front of her. Her snarl softened, almost to a smile, before she shook away whatever idea was brewing in her head. At that moment she erupted into a violent coughing fit, drawing Professor Snape's attention.
"Shut it!" I said kicking her under the table, but it was too late.
"Cheating are we? That will be 10 points from Gryffindor and a detention." He said it like he'd been waiting all day for one of the Gryffindors to mess up.
"But sir!-" I began, before stopping abruptly due to the dangerous glint I saw in his eye. I didn't want to test this man. "Yes Professor."
"And that will be a detention for you too, Ms Parkinson." he spoke.
Pansy choked on her own grin. "Sir?"
Snape leant across her wooden desk until he was almost nose to nose with Pansy.
"I don't like snitches." He said slowly and deliberately. At that point a loud bell shook the classroom and the professor straitened before waving his wand to collect the papers in.

I didn't look at Pansy as I stormed out, grabbing Harry and Hermione by the arms. Ron who had somehow managed to sleep through all that had to be flicked on the forehead to awaken.
"Oh, uh what'd I miss" he mumbled, his eyes half closed and his voice thick from sleep.
"Oh come on Ron" I growled hauling him to his feet as he tried to regain consciousness. My friends, sensing my anger, followed dutifully behind.
