Holly's pov

I bustled into the potions storage classroom as fast as I could, tripping over my robe, books spilling from my bag. Pansy had her feet kicked up on a desk and chuckled when she saw the state I was in.
"Shit I'm not late am I? God he's gonna kill me!" I said, slamming my bag down on a desk as I hurried to collect my fallen possessions.

"Yes Ms Cohen, exactly eight minutes." a voice spoke from the back of the classroom, making me jump and drop another book. Obviously Pansy had been unaware of his presence too as her feet quickly dropped to the floor and she sat up straight. "That will be a further 10 points from Gryffindor."

God i'm surprised more people in Gryffindor don't hate me.

Snape strode up the isle between the desks and came to a stop in front of us, his cape still billowing behind him.
"You will spend the next three hours cleaning my cauldrons. By hand. No magic. There will be no talking, no time-wasting, nothing except from cauldron cleaning. Understood?"
We both nodded in agreement, before Snape turned on his heels and exited the classroom.

Pansy sighed. "One day i'm going to drop a sleeping draft in his pumpkin juice and physically remove the stick from his arse."
I couldn't help but laugh, "Sounds like a great time"
I turned toward her "You'll send me an invite if you ever decide to go through with it?"
"Oh I wouldn't let you miss it." She winked at me as she strolled towards a cauldron. "Besides he put us both into detention right? I think it should be a team effort."

I scowled at her as I picked up a cloth, suddenly remembering that this is the girl i'm supposed to hate. "Yeah and whose fault is that?"
She chuckled as she began reluctantly scouring the outside of a cauldron. "Uh you can't blame me for that Gryffindor. No Slytherin could of resisted that opportunity, just wish I would've factored in the fact that Snape hates everyone, including his own house."
"Then you deserve this detention." I rolled my eyes, fighting a smile.

Merlin what is wrong with me.

"So who are you taking to the ball?" Holly asked her legs swinging from where she was perched on one of the old wooden desks.
"The what?" Hogwarts was infamous for the amount of balls it held, it would give me a headache if I attempted to keep track of when they all took place.

"The halloween ball of course!" she looked shocked, as though it were unimaginable that I wouldn't be interested in attending another stupid dance. "I mean you're probably going with Draco aren't you, you two go to every ball together."
"No." I responded quickly, too quickly. Shit.

She leant forward, her eyes wide. "What happened? Are you two-"
"So who are are you going with?" I never would of asked if I wasn't so desperate to change the conversation.
"Oh." She blushed deeply. "Uh - Seamus asked me."

I let out a breath I hadn't noticed that i'd been holding, and then I registered what she said.
"Finnigan?!" I spluttered in disbelief. "And you said yes?" I didn't even try to mask the disgust in my voice.
"Yes!" She said indignantly "He's - he's a really nice guy." she struggled out.
I looked at her and scoffed, my arms folded across my chest.

"Okay, I know! but who else is gonna ask me? I mean... look at me." she said, frowning down into her reflection on one of the cauldrons.
And so I did. I looked at her. I mean really looked at her for the first time.

She was a redhead. From a distance she could've been mistaken for a Weasley, but there was something different about her. Her skin was pale and pure, dusted with an immense amount of red freckles.. Her curls were warm and as they tumbled over her shoulder, they glittered golden under the soft light of the storage room, a vast difference to the watery orange that no amount of breeding seemed to wash out of the Weaselby's.

I always hated brown eyes, I thought they were boring, mainly because I was so used to seeing them in the mirror everyday. They were so dull compared to the blues and greens I saw on my classmates, but Holly had brown eyes. Hers were big, warm and full of kindness. But maybe that was just Holly's thing.

She had stripped off her black robe and was wearing a yellow and red knitted quidditch jumper which swallowed her small frame. It was so big there was a possibility it was one of the Weasley twin's, or Oliver Wood's or maybe even Potter's. I don't know why that made me feel so sick.

"I think you're gorgeous." I couldn't help myself.
She let out a short, shocked laugh. "Best be careful Pansy. If anyone heard they might think were actually friends."
A wave of relief rolled over me. Thank God she didn't take me seriously, Merlin what is wrong with me. Who says that to a person?

"If you tell anyone, i'll deny everything." I replied, trying my best to make light of what had just left my mouth. She let out a soft laugh, as smooth and sweet as honey. I cursed myself silently as I blushed, and a cheesy smile spread across my face. Who would of ever pictured this, Pansy Parkinson tolerating, and maybe even, slightly, starting to like, a Gryffindor.
