The Winter

Prologue

      Hi! I'm Jessica Rinns, and I live in a world of chaos. Well, it didn't used to be chaos. It was peaceful... until we learned the truth. Here's how my world works. There are four seasons, which represent different sections of our land. In Summer it's super warm, there's tons of beaches, sandy dunes, and tropical resorts. In Winter, it's mainly snow and ice, there are igloos, and..... it's mainly snow and ice. There's not much to say about it. Spring is full of flowers, it rains five days a week, and it is the least polluted season. Fall is wonderful. That's where I wish I end up after I get assigned my season. The leaves stay colorful, the people are very humble and adventurous, and it is full of mountains. At least this is what I've heard about the seasons. I've never actually been to any of them. I live in the middle of everything. I live in The Hub. Its where the government works, and it's where every kid under the age of 16 lives. When they turn 16 they get assigned into a specific season that the government sees fit. After that, they are forbidden from entering any other season.... ever. If we didn't get assigned the same season as our families, then we can't see them. This is my story. It's not the happiest one, but it's my life, and I'm grateful for it.
