"Well, that was pleasant," Jessica said as she wringed water from her light blue, plaid dress.

"Hey, at least we didn't freeze to death," Leo said.

We all knew that wasn't a sarcastic comment. There really was the possibility of us dying out there from the cold.

"Well, Dylan wasn't scared. Right Dylan?" Zoe said as she winked at me.

Would this girl get off of my back already? She has been trying to seduce me for years now and it hasn't been working. She thinks that just because her dad is the CEO of one of the top companies in the nation that she can get anything she wants.

After a moment of silence, I replied,

"No, actually that terrified me. Who doesn't get scared when exposed to a psychopathic man?"

Honestly though, what was wrong with him?

We all finished wringing out our clothes in private. Luckily the cabin we found was heated, which is a miracle because all we have felt for the past half an hour was the freezing cold of winter.

I looked up at Jessica. Her blue eyes shined like diamonds as they met mine. I have had a crush on her since first grade, but it feels like she has barely ever noticed me. That surprises me, considering my reputation at school. Every girl who has ever laid eyes on me has blushed, or even took action on their feelings. I get asked on dates every other day, and have even gotten proposed to twice. Crazy, right?

I would stop it if I could, and trust me, I've tried. Nothing works.

Jessica is special. She has never once asked me out, and she doesn't ever pay attention to me in the hallways. They say boys like hard to get. Does that apply to me?

Even while trying to wring out my leather jacket and white t-shirt they still appeared drenched. How come my clothes stayed soaked when everyone else succeeded in getting most of the water out of theirs?

In an attempt to start a conversation with Jessica, I walked over to the plaid couch she was sitting on.

"Hey," I said as I sat next to her.

"Oh! Hi," she said back

"Hello everyone!!!" Zoe said, scooching in between us, splitting us up.

Seriously?

After that Jessica got up and said,

"You two obviously need to talk, I'm sorry but I have to go."

I watched as she walked over to the kitchen counter to talk with Leo. Leo Curtis: The mystery. No one really knows much about him. He hasn't talked to anyone all year and he hasn't tried to make any friends. Some say he is an alien from outer space. I don't believe that.

"Guys, I think we should search the cabin for useful materials, like food, extra clothing, stuff like that," I said, in an attempt to do something useful instead of wasting our time, lounging.

"That guy could come back. We need to be prepared," I continued.

"Sounds like a great plan O' Mighty Ruler of the Cold," Leo spoke up.

Great. One of the first things I ever hear him say is sarcastic. He's one of those people, isn't he?

"Hey, at least he has a plan," Jessica said.

I looked at her and our eyes met, her dazzling blue eyes slowly piecing together my heart. I gave her a thanking smile, and walked in the tiled kitchen. Opening the fridge, I realized two things. First of all, the fridge wasn't cold, and second, there was nothing in it.

"Well, the fridge is empty," Zoe said as she, on tiptoes, peered over my shoulder.

"I'll check the cupboards," Jessica said.

Leo and Zoe just stood their, watching us scramble through the kitchen. Well? Do they have to be directed or can they find something useful to do by themselves?

Moments later I said,

"I will check the kitchen and living room, Jessica and Zoe can check the bedrooms and bathrooms, and Leo can check the basement. Sounds good?"

"But baby, I wanna stick with you! Not Jess-sick-a," Zoe commented.

In sync, Jessica and I rolled our eyes.

"You'll be fine for a couple minutes," I replied.

Frowning, she nodded her head. Jessica smiled in confirmation. Leo just nodded.

When we grouped back together, Leo found a 2 cans of green beans, 5 cans of cranberry sauce, and a variety of different kinds of canned soups. Zoe came back with nothing, but Jessica found some candles, a few hunting knives, and, of course, a variety of blankets and pillows in each room. I found multiple boxes of matches, a variety of pots and pans, silverware, a few boxes of powdered mash potatoes, and a blanket.

"Guess we will call it a night then,' I said while opening a can of green beans.

Green beans are my least favorite, but I figured that I should leave the best for last? I'm not exactly sure what my logic was on this one.

As I grimaced while gulping down the last couple beans, I heard Jessica say,

"There are two bed rooms. Either the girls share a bed and the boys share the other, or one of us sleeps on the couch and the other on the ground," she paused, looked at Zoe, then continued,

"I'll just sleep on the ground."

"No, its ok Jessica. You can sleep on the other bed and me and Leo will sleep in the living room," I responded.

Leo gave me the why-are-you-speaking-for-me look and then said,

"I get the ground."

"Ok then it's settled," Zoe continued,

"A lady needs her beauty sleep."

I watched as she grabbed two of the blankets, which was selfish considering we only had four, and then walked into the hallway.

~ Later that Night ~

I lay in my bed, blanket less, worrying about food, questioning if we will survive, thinking about possible hunting techniques, ya know, normal teenage stuff.

Leo seemed peaceful, though his snoring made me anything but peaceful. Haha. Sometimes I like to laugh at my own jokes in my head. Kind of pathetic, right?

Ahh...

And then I dozed off.....
