At the hideout

It's a sour goodbye. Naruto looks tremendously burdened and sad, and Himawari, although being able to hide it seeing her dad's face, feels extremely sorrowful too. Hinata, cheerful as always, reassured them both that everything would be fine... kissed Naruto (which in front of the kids she would never do, but seeing her husband so down, felt the need to) and hugged Himawari, telling her she loved her and to be nice to Iruka-sensei. Boruto, in his own mannerism, did the same as his mother and they both left the house.

They met Konohamaru at the gates. No one was there to say goodbye; in fact, no one knew they were leaving except Kakashi and Naruto. It was all part of the mission.

Konohamaru lead them to the warehouse. They settled. Hinata and Konohamaru would take turns to guard the surroundings. Boruto would stay hidden, but the place was big enough for him to keep training (after all, it was an underground hideout). They had no contact with the village or anybody else; it was dangerous. If they needed to reach out, they would send the message through Enra, who was now a fully-grown monkey.

The first week past by without hiccups. They would only have to wait two more weeks for the prototype to be ready and they'd be able to go back to Konoha. But on the Wednesday of the second week, they received terrible news: Kimochi was now aware that Boruto wasn't with Sasuke, Naruto or within the village. They needed to be alert.

The hours guarding became more stressful, every single noise would put them on their toes... but still nothing happened for the rest of week two. Just one more week (and they were sure Shikamaru was working full time to finish)... one more week and they'd be able to leave the hideout. They needed to stay hidden for just one more week.

And the third week started off right; nothing new was happening, but by Tuesday, things took an unfortunate turn.

Konohamaru was on watching duties, while Hinata and Boruto were eating. Throughout all those days, she never stopped using the byakugan, fearing that doing so would leave them vulnerable. And she was right. She saw something moving towards them at incredible speed. She analyzed the body... from toe to face to... there were no eyes... just two cavities... She was sure.

She stood up and shouted to Boruto while heading towards the exit:

—He's coming. Tell the village. Tell your father to come.

Boruto immediately stood up and headed to Enra. As soon as the monkey saw Boruto running towards him, disappeared with the known message.

Boruto, understanding he was the target and going outside would only cause trouble, stayed hidden. He had matured and was not the impatient little kid he was before.

Konohamaru was outside. Silent, listening to nature and waiting... hoping that it would be just another day. While immerse in his thoughts, Hinata showed up and, without having to say anything, Konohamaru guessed the reason.

—Enra's already been sent to the village. We just need to hold on until Naruto arrives.

—Understood.

They stayed there, waiting for the shadow to arrive. And didn't pass much time; few minutes after, Kimochi showed up, screaming:

—You were awfully well hidden. It took me an eternity to find you, Boruto. And I can see why... these two bugs... I'm not familiarized with their senses. But I can tell they're not rivals to me. One of them, though... I can sense something I definitely want. I'm gonna have to fight them to get you, right, Boruto? Fine... this will take me about ten minutes top. Let's start, bugs.

The fight unleashed.

Both Hinata and Konohamaru knew they were no match to Kimochi, but were certain that they just needed to hold on. Ten minutes. It was enough for both of them.
