Just as the Doctor Sandra Johnson was ready to proceed, the operating room door flew open, and a furious Harris Harrison appeared.

"What the hell are you people doing?" he shouted as he stomped into the room.

Just as quickly, Dr. Johnson yelled back, "We are trying to save a life. Get out!"

Harris ignored the command and grabbed the blanket covering Jade. He tore off the blanket and continued to shout, "You idiots! She's a robot."

With that, Harris rolled Jade onto her side and showed the operating room staff the power lead coming out of her back. At first, the medical staff stared at Jade. Then they stared at each other in embarrassment. A nervous anesthesiologist quickly removed the oxygen mask from Jade's face. A moment of stunned silence followed.

As if on cue, the entire staff dropped their arms and started doffing their surgical scrubs. Several began to leave the room. As Doctor Johnson began to walk away, Harris called out to her in a more reserved voice. "Hang on. I'm going to need your help."

Sandra Johnson blinked a couple of times and then edged back towards Harris.

"I will need X-rays of her head from the front, side, and top," Harris said calmly.

"Are you going to try to fix her?" asked a baffled Doctor Johnson.

"Yep," said Harris with confidence. "She's special to me." He paused while looking at Jade for a moment. "We are going to need a filtered 120-volt power source."

Sandra Johnson picked up a ship's phone and called for an electrical mate to bring the needed supplies. Within a few moments, the man arrived and quickly had direct power restored to Jade. Her batteries had already been fully discharged. When the bullet hit Jade, her internal monitoring system detected a significant failure and shut down almost all her systems. For some reason, the fluid pump and breathing motor kept working, producing the pulse and chest movements seen by the medical staff.

Harris and Sandra went to work. Harris explained that the red liquid was a form of anti-freeze pumped through Jade's artificial skin to warm it up and give it a rosy glow. They cleaned out the wound and drained the remaining fluid. The initial examination results were not good. Jade's right eye was gone, blown away by the impact of an exiting bullet. In the back of her head was the entrance wound. It was round and neat. However, the bullet had smashed through the audio/visual unit and the homing beacon.

"That explains why we suddenly lost all contact with her during the raid," commented Harris.

Luckily, the logic units are located inside Jade's chest cavity. Just because she looked human didn't mean a brain had to be placed where the humans carry theirs. However, Jade was not waking up.

Harris realized that Jade's hearing and seeing were destroyed so the system would stay shut down to avoid additional damage. Harris pulled over a tray of surgical instruments. He selected a scalpel and carefully cut away some damaged skin. Underneath was the audio/video controller. He dabbed up a small pool of anti-freeze. Then he located a wire harness plugged into the unit. He unplugged the cord and lifted it out of her body, holding it outside of the exit wound using a forceps.

By this time, Buffy entered the room. She wheeled out of the command center when she heard Jade was wounded and onboard. Two sailors helped her onto the ammunition elevator that could take her to the ship's medical unit.

Harris grabbed Buffy's laptop computer and turned it on.

"Good morning to you too," said Buffy sarcastically.

"Buffy, Sandra. Sandra, Buffy," spoke Harris in a rough method of introductions. The two women shook hands.

Harris opened the schematics for Jade. He paged down to the details about the audio/video unit. There he located the two connections he needed to find.
