In fifth grade at the start of the school year, my teacher assigned seats. I hate assigned seats, what of you ended up sitting some freak, which is what happened to me.Jenna Yang.
She absolutely grinded my gears; and I hers. Her devil may care attitude rubbed me the wrong way, it clashed with my, what some would call, uptight one. She was rude where I was extremely polite, she was loud where I was often quiet and she always teased about the bows my mother put in my hair. So yes, I did not like her.
I tried to ignore her at first but breaking two of the pencils I lent her, I was done. I had had it up to my freaking eyebrows with her. This begun the Clash of Titans (as my teacher so fondly put it).
We fought all the damn time. And this wasn't with words, fists were regularly involved. There was a whole lot of pranking too, mostly from Jenna. We were as violent as kids who grew up on video games could get.
One Friday morning the fighting got really bad!! This wasn't our usual one punch, jab routines; we were really going at it. Hair pulling, biting and a full one heavy weight boxing match. There was blood and some collateral damage in the form on Peter Evans broken nose (till this day I still don't know how we managed that) . After that unfortunate incident, our principal locked us in his office alone insisting we talked this out.
At the beginning, there was a lot of finger pointing and playing the blame, after much argument and doing so at the top of our voices we made up.
Well, kinda, it took some time hours of detention together, but by the end of the year we were thick as thieves.
Jenna grew up to be a gorgeous young woman who was a certified bad bitch but at this very minute she looked every bit the savage girl I first met.
Her dark eyes pinned me down and I'm sure anyone else in my position would have squirmed, but i guess I was immune to the death stare she was giving me now."So he's having another 'study session' with Stephanie?" she bit out through clenched jaws.
If I wasn't so annoyed by her overprotectiveness I would probably be a little scared for Jake and myself.
"Yes" trying my best not to sound like it bothered me too much but really, who was I kidding?
Muttering something in mandarin, hopefully not some ancient Chinese curse. Nostrils flaring with her hand curled up in a fist, probably to keep herself from slapping me, she banged her fist on the wooden table startling some juniors sitting next to us. I turned to apologise to the kids so they wouldn't shit themselves, everyone knew how Jenna got when she was angry.
"You know that douche bag is cheating on you right? You know he's not studying, right? Right?". Even with a snarl on her face she was still so pretty. If I made it out of this conversation I was so forcing her to start modelling professionally. That was IF I made it out alive.
"Yes I know, I'm not a total idiot" I said rolling my eyes and picking at my lunch.
"So why are you acting like one ?" I didn't even try to answer that because for once I didn't know what to say.
"Jenna, just drop it," I sighed.
"No, that dickhead has to pay. Look how he's treating you, and with Stephanie? Really?"
"Stephanie is hot, a total babe" Sapphire's voice rung out. She was the third member in our ragtag group of misfits. We weren't really misfits but you get the picture.
In my second, I got a visit from Aunt Flo early. I remember how embarrassed I felt. I was busy hyperventilating in the bathroom stall when the softest voice asked me if everything was ok. At that point I had nothing to loose so I told her everything, she left and came back with a sanitary pad and the cutest skater skirt. And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is how I met Sapphire Johnson.
"That's debatable" Jenna shot back.
Sapphire rolled her eyes and turned to me, "Sleepover at my place tonight? You look like you need some girl time."She knew me so well.
"Yes please. Jenna?" we both turned to her pouting knowing she couldn't resisting our combined powers of cuteness.
"Ugh, fine but there better be booze." Told you she couldn't resist us.
"Victory," Sapphire exclaimed pumping her fishing in the air, we giggled at her childish behaviour.
"So tonight, we'll be doing our makeup, nails, hair aaand we will make rice krispies treats," she wrote in her notebook as she spoke.
"Infused rice krispies treats?" Jenna asked with a sly smile.
"Alcohol and weed is a bad idea, you know that," I piped up.
"Shut up, I'm still mad at you," I rolled my eyes at that one, trust her to avoid the problem at hand completely.
"Well it won't be so bad if we do both in moderation," Sapphire countered.
"Yes, Sapphire, moderation," Jenna said with a shit eating grin but she and I both knew she was going to get on fifty different levels of fucked up if she could. "Besides, it's Friday night and your no dick having boyfriend is probably swapping bodily fluids with someone else, the least you could to is let loose and have some fun"
Sapphire nodded in agreement and I knew I had lost this round, "I guess it couldn't be that bad", trying to convince myself more than anybody else.
The bell rung soon after and we all made our way to our separate classes while promising to meet up after school.
After switching my books in my locker, I hurried down the hall to class all whilst praying I wouldn't be late. I guess I didn't watch where I was going because a few minutes later I ran straight into a wall, and let me tell ya, it hurt like a bitch.
The pain shot all through out my face, my eyes started to water, I clutched my nose on instinct and prepared myself for the unforgiving cold of the tiled floor but it never came. Feeling a hand wrapped around my waist, I looked up to see who saved me from the pain and utter humiliation I almost experienced.Peering through my lashes, I recognized the person who saved my ass, literally, was none other than the devil himself, Reese Walker, Primrose High's resident bad boy.
How fucking clichè
