Reese wanted to play AC/DC, probably to further fuel the darkness inside of him. I wanted to play Doja Cat because she's cool. Do I need another reason?
We spent a good portion of the ride arguing about this and after Reese resisted the urge to push me out of the car while doing a 70. We only managed to hear half of "Back in Black" before pulling up in front of the dinner that apparently has the best burgers.Reese out the car in park and turned the engine off. He took of his shades he was wearing earlier, they made him look cooler than he actually was.
"We're here princess," he had to announce obnoxiously.
"Thank you Captain Obvious," I threw back sarcastically. I was still bitter from my radio battle loss.
Instead of retorting, he chuckled in a carefree manner and begun unbundling his seatbelt to get out of the car. I proceeded to do the same.
We stepped into the diner and immediately realised why Reese liked this place so much. It had this very interesting retro and car theme that went well together. 50’s themed decor with a black and white checkered floor. The seats looked like they had been imported from 1956 California. A juke box in the corner, and not just for decoration too, there was music playing softly from it. And the icing on the cake was the 1959 Harley Davidson Panhead motorbike installed overhead at the entrance.
The whole design made the little girl who spent hours decorating her barbie dream house come alive. I'm a bit of an interior decor fan and I was standing this place big time. Not that I would admit that to Reese.
"Thus place makes me wish I was born in the fifties," Reese's voice broke through the fan girl daydreams.
I scoffed at that, "Dude you aren't missing anything. Milkshakes and racism still exist."
Reese opened his mouth as if to say something, then just closed it again. Yeah that's what I thought.
We sat there in less than comfortable silence for what seemed like 30 minutes before a pretty blonde waitress walked up to us.She handed us each a menu and pulled out a small notepad and pen. This is why I do not like getting food at new places. It takes me forever to decide what I want to eat, I'm really bad at making on the spot decisions. I opened the menu and started scanning through.
Reese who was (hopefully) unaware of my internal turmoil gave his menu back to her and ordered for both of us.
"We'll have two bacon cheese burgers, one Sprite, one oreo milkshake for the lady," he said winking at me. "And an order of cinnamon rolls to go."The waitress, whose name tag read Betty, wrote everything with speed that would put a court clerk to shame and walked away. As soon as she was out of sight, Reese leaned closer to me like he had the hottest piece of gossip ever.
"So...," he started, his eyes seemed to to sparkle with mischief.
"So?" I replied, his demeanour has be feeling a little nervous and I tried to hide it.
"You want to know what I saw today?" I really was not in the mood to play whatever this was, but I would not know. I hated not knowing.
"No I don't know Reese. What did you see?" I said, talking to him like I was speaking to an eight year old.
"Guess," he said excitedly, like an eight year old. He put his chin on palms which was propped up by his elbows on the table.
"What is it?" I tried to match his childish enthusiasm. Reese is the kind of person who will not budge unless you play his stupid game with him.
"No, no, you have to guess," he was really enjoying this, I could tell. The huge smile on his face was a dead giveaway.
"Reese I can't guess," I was bored already.
