The next day, we went about as normal until lunch time. For Asylum A, we were fed first, as well as given medication to sedate us for a while. However, it was very clear that our "nurse" was different today. It was a relatively sturdy looking white male with blonde hair wearing a light blue uniform. I was almost certain he was one of the guards, but he had a cart with different lunches, each in a tin, colorful box. He also gave us small paper cups filled to the halfway line with the pink, slimy liquid, which today seemed extra slimy. He looked at us, which meant he likely wasn't leaving until we drank down the liquid. I quickly turned the cup up, but I felt something else enter my mouth, something paper like. When he finally left, I ran to the bathroom sink and spat out the terrible liquid. The hot pink substance stained my shirt sleeve as I dug through the liquid to find the piece of paper. When I did, I noticed it was folded.

"Check your lunches through.-J"

It took us digging through our lunches to see that within Rajo's sandwich there was a key. "Keep this in your shirt okay?" I tell her calmly. She only nods as a response. The other two girls looked scared and I finally told them what was going on. "When I give the signal, we are getting out of here."

That day, we had no one come in to check our vitals, medication, or experiment on us. This was the first day it was peaceful within the room. "It's almost dark." Saloni spoke up. Laurinda nodded, but I noticed she was afraid of what was going on. "What if this is all a trick? They'll kill us if they find out." I didn't know what to tell her, as she was right, but I doubted that they would stage a breakout just to trick us and lead us to our deaths. "Look, you think we are going to survive here if we stay?" This caused silence to wash over the room, but the elephant in the room had to be addressed. Even if this was a trap, if we stayed here it was guaranteed death. These "doctors" only cared about experimenting for money and power, we all knew this for a fact. "I'm with Jadya on this one. We have a better bet trying to escape ourselves and hide out within the city than staying here and surviving. Especially Alexa." Alexa was asleep, curled into a fatal position. She was the second oldest, however, she was the worst off. Her powers would short everything around her out, and it was too much for her. "Okay, even if we get out, we can't go home. We can't go anywhere." Saloni argued, her hand was on Alexa's arm, comforting the older as she grimaced. "Look, it's better than this death sentence. When we get out of here-" "if." Rajo corrected, she didn't agree with leaving, but she knew I was right. "If we get out of here, we can find a real doctor who could treat Alexa and the rest of us. We could tell people what they are actually doing here, and maybe the government will be forced to stop this." That was a stretch on my part. "It's not the best option, but it's good enough."  The others just nodded solemnly.

At midnight, Rajo and I worked on opening the door with the key, while Saloni and Laurinda balanced Alexa in between themselves. She groaned at the sudden move, but was otherwise quiet. "Hurry up. The guards will be checking on us in thirty minutes," Saloni reminded, just as the door fell open. "Stay on the wall okay? We need to get down to the captain's room." "Wait, I need to grab something I think might be helpful." Rajo ran back into the room, but came back seconds later with a handful of candy. "They said we needed this?" Saloni asked, nervously looking at the trivial item. "Look, we need to go." Laurinda finally urged.

After what seemed like forever, we were trekking through the dense snow. The captain's room was on the other side of the facility, a large plantation style house on the edge of the camp. The door was ajar, and there was the guard standing in the door frame. At this point, I realized that this might have been a trap, but I wasn't the only one. Laurinda had already turned to run at this point, Alexa bouncing on her back as she tried to run. The guard lifted his hand and I saw the silver hand gun right as it registered that he shot at her, I fell to the ground. Now one thing about this facility was that they had weapons specially designed to be more powerful than anything they would use on a human. Silver guns were the most popular as they were practical. Laurinda laid face down in the snow, Alexa was sprawled onto the ground slightly offset from the younger. I realized that the shot had missed Laurinda and went through Alexa's head instead. The snow seemed red, as I tried to get up, I could hear the snow crunching between the guard's footsteps each seemed louder than the last. Finally, his boot's sole rested in the middle of my back. "It's a shame. You had so much potential." He lifted his boot from my back for a second, then stomped down, slamming me into the snow. I don't even know what happened after I grabbed his ankle. I felt emotions I hadn't since I was brought to this place. I saw cities and houses, but it was all cut short.

When I opened my eyes, blood and human matter had painted my clothes and skin as well as the other girls and the snow. I felt sick, almost immediately and rolled over to throw up. I knew what happened, but my adrenaline didn't let me process what had just happened. "Lets go." I muttered. "Lets go!" I finally yelled in the sheer desperation to just leave. I got up and began to run away. Rajo called after me, but I was too fast. That's when I slammed into something.
