"The Monster"

27 2 4

The monster is lurking, lurking in our home,
I swear I'd often see it, see it but I alone;

Saw it first that night, that night daddy came late,
And mom and him argued, argued with so much hate.

I wanted to tell them both, tell them both what I saw,
But they wouldn't listen to a child, a child a year or so.

From that day on the monster, the monster wouldn't go,
It even grew bigger, bigger and fiercier too;

I was really scared, scared what it would do,
And I was so real glad, glad they saw it too;

But I was so perplexed, perplexed of what they did,
Instead of slaying the monster, the monster was welcomed and had it even fed.

I wished I was older, older and big enough,
I could have tried to slay it, slay it no matter how tough;

But I was just a child, a child who was helpless,
So sad that my parents, my parents cpuldn't care less.

They didn't seem to see, see the evil intent of the monster;
To them the monster is what they needed, needed to make things better.

Then the day I fear came, came that night I'm on a corner and aghast;
Seeing the monster attacked, attacked and ripped my parents apart.

I cried that night so hard, so hard until I'm blue;
And I'm just a child, a child not knowing what to do.

I was left with my grandma, grandma who eventually succumbed to death;
And I grew up alone, alone with fears undealt.

I was devastated, devastated by my past;
I became someone who couldn't, couldn't make my relationships last.

I go around looking for something, something I'm missing way back;
Something I was robbed of, robbed of by that monster's attack.

If only my parents have seen it, seen it  in the eyes of their child,
They could have done what's right, what's right was them fighting it together side by side.

For better or for worse, 'til death do them apart.
